Feature Revamp: Favorites and Ratings
Posted Tue, 22 March 2016, 11:38 UTC by Tenboro
Revamped core favorite functionality

While ratings were always common to a gallery chain, favorites were associated with single galleries, meaning that they could point to an older version of a gallery. Favorites are now set for a gallery chain, and will always point to the newest version of the gallery.

Notably, this means that when a previously favorited gallery is updated, it will show up as such on the front/search page, which means that you should be able to keep track of updates much more easily than before.

No more favorite limits

The limit for how many favorites you can store was removed. There is still a limit for how many notes you can store, and the readout on the screen where you add/modify favorites will now show that instead.

The old hath perks for increased favorite limits will now increase the number of notes allowed instead, and were renamed accordingly.

More Favorites I and II were also combined. Note that because of caching, the readout could still be showing the old limit for a day or so if you only had the first one.

Rated gallery indicators

When you rate a gallery, the average rating will now be replaced with your own rating everywhere it appears; that is, on the front/search page, the favorite page, and the gallery page. The average rating will still be displayed below the stars on the gallery page.

The color of the stars will change to indicate that you have rated a gallery. By default, they will change to red for two stars or less, green for 2.5 to 4 stars, and blue for 4.5 and 5 stars.

You can fully customize your preferred color combinations on the settings page.

Sortable favorite times

The system will now remember when you added a gallery to your favorites. This can be used to sort the favorite screen by favorited time instead of the gallery posted date.

This works both in List and Thumbnail Mode. Height grouping is no longer used on the Favorite screen, so the order will be accurate in both modes.

Note also that favorites added prior to a conversion process that happened a few days ago do not have a timestamp for when they were added. These will be using the last updated time of the gallery at the time of the conversion.

Modifying the category or note will not reset the timestamp, removing and re-adding it will.

Better UI interaction

A number of UI tweaks were made to improve some suboptimal behavior with how ratings and favorites are displayed, added and modified.

You can find the full list of changes in the Update Log. Note that these changes touched large parts of the codebase, so let me know if you encounter any weirdness anywhere.

Introducing the Feature Feedback Forum
Posted Sun, 13 March 2016, 15:50 UTC by Tenboro
We have now opened the Feature Feedback Forum where we will occasionally ask for community feedback on particular planned feature additions, removals or changes. This will be a way for you to affect how the site develops in the future, should you choose to take advantage of it.

Note that this forum is restricted to replies only, you cannot create new topics in there. Feature suggestions and discussion on other site-related matters should still go in the Site Discussion forum.

There are already three topics open for discussion, and I expect to make significant use of this in the future, assuming people take the time to weigh in.

New feature: Higher-resolution image options
Posted Sun, 13 March 2016, 11:42 UTC by Tenboro
We're finally getting the payoff for the last couple of months of server work. Two new resolution options, 1600x and 2400x, are now being rolled out. These join the existing 1280x, 980x and 780x options to provide a wide variety of options to cater to all screen sizes and internet speeds.

Note that while this will soon be available to all registered members, to (hopefully) avoid killing the staging servers, this feature is being rolled out gradually. It is currently available to everyone with a donation star or any hath perk (even the HV ones), and everyone with a UID below 3,000,000.

If you qualify, you can select one of the new resolutions under My Settings. If you don't, just hang on for a bit. I don't have a firm estimate for how quickly the UID cutoff will be increased, as it depends on how many people end up selecting higher resolutions, but it shouldn't be too long.

Finally, I would like to take a minute to thank all the donators and people running H@H for making this possible. The dozen or so new servers to support this are all directly paid for with Bitcoin, and without H@H we would have needed many more and/or much more expensive servers to do it. So, thanks! You guys are great.

Edit: Bumped up the UID cutoff to 3,000,000.

New Features: Lofi images available everywhere
Posted Thu, 03 March 2016, 10:58 UTC by Tenboro
This update allows you to select lofi resample files in the normal Galleries system by selecting either 980x or 780x under My Settings. These will work both for the normal image viewer as well as in the MPV.

Lofi images will also be fetched via H@H unless disabled, thanks to a previously applied update.

For people who use the H@H image proxy functionality, the first load of any lofi image will bypass this, as images are generated on-demand and the resulting fileid is not known at the time of the request.

New Upload Servers
Posted Thu, 04 February 2016, 15:34 UTC by Tenboro
Two new upload/primary image servers have now been fully deployed. Outside of roughly tripling the storage capacity compared to the old ones, to 96TB usable for images and 6TB usable for thumbnails, these should also provide a moderate boost in image processing speed, as well as enable certain future functionality.

At this point, everything should be fully synced up, so if you encounter any broken images or thumbnails, do post a notice in this thread.
