Pretty decent art and not to shabby story equals a pretty good read. The lines could have done with a bit more inking but in the end I think the artist choose the proper route and stuck to the correct art style. While the super skinny elfs may not be my thing, they still looked 'good'.
Final Call: Worth a page over.

This doujinshi by Toshio Satou (Circle Kyomu no Uta) has an excellent artistic style which forgoes extensive use of the tones commonly used to add shading to manga in favor of a penciled-in style somewhat reminiscent of the style used by Samura Hiroaki of Blade of the Immortal fame. The character design is similar to the style used by Miyakoshi Wasoh in the third Seikai no Monshou (Banner of the Stars II, in the US) tankoubon.
Featured pairings are Jinto/Lafiel and Jinto/Ekuryua. The omake included at the end of this doujin includes some yuri group action. Overall, this is an excellent doujinshi, especially for fans of the Seikai no Monshou anime.

I've been a fan of Toshio Satou's work for a long time, so it would be best to take my comments with a grain of salt. Having said that, this Crest of the Stars doujin is quite well drawn, and has an intersting story behind it as well. Lafiel, the elven-looking girl, and Jinto, the boy, have been something of a couple since the beginning of the series. It's too bad that in the anime there were no actual scenes showing romance, just a whole lot of affectionate moments, which are just as good in a way. Anyway, this doujin seems to take place in the second season of the anime (due to the presence of Ekuryua, the short-haired girl), in an interval in the war that's currently raging, and spotlights a bathing scene where getting clean appears to be the last thing on the to-do list.
Ekuryua isn't really a major character in the anime, but she plays a pivotal role in this work, first with Lafiel, and then with JInto. On a side note, in the anime, Ekuryua seems to develop something of a crush on Jinto, a fact that Lafiel remains entirely oblivious of. The artwork is excellent, and the story is engaging, thus I have rated it appropriately. Hopefully this review was enlightening. |
