Ahh, Dragon's Lair and Space Ace... Two vastly under-rated works of animator Don Bluth; entertaining cartoon 'movies' in of themselves, but incredibly frustrating as arcade games because of the (way back then) clunky joystick control and the split-second reactions needed for the game. >_<

It was decades later, while casually browsing a used movies shelf, but I happened across a DVD containing the full 'movies' of Dragon's Lair (#1 & #2) and Space Ace. I bought the DVD without hesitation or regret. It was totally worth the purchase cost of the DVD for the sense of (arcade game) closure, though I mourn the many lost quarters of my childhood. ;<

Never played the game. Anyone mind telling me why the guy keeps switching between an adult and a kid? I know what the player character in Dragon Lair looks like at least, so I assume the player character in Space Ace is a kid?

@Brodon The game has you going up against Borf who has created a weapon called the Infanto Ray which turns people into infants. Dexter "Ace" (who is an adult at this time) is hit with this device although it is not fully effective for reasons I don't remember. This leaves you in a state where you jump between pre-teen Ace and regular, adult Ace. You spend most of the game playing as young dexter but you can temporarily reverse the Infanto Ray's effects using your watch.

Also I'm so rusty with these games it didn't occur to me that Daphne was from Dragon's lair. I read the last page and thought "Whose this red head". That's Kimmy, Ace's girlfriend from Space Ace.

@Brodon The villain of the game Space Ace created a weapon that makes people younger, usually turning them into small children. Ace was hit by it, and was turned back into his teenage self, Dexter. He can "energize" at various points throughout the game to turn back into Ace, though it eventually wears off, turning him back into Dexter.

And for anyone wondering, Kim mentions Time Gal in page 8, which was another game with very similar gameplay to Space Ace and Dragon's Lair, but with the gimmick of, you guessed it, time travel. Retsupurae did a wrongpurae (they laugh at gameplay of a bad/outdated game) of Time Gal, and a few other similar games with QTE-based gameplay, which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXuauClk_E0
