I'm seriously considering installing the game to see if the game actually has this many variations, or if someone just fucked up with the rip.

2500 variations is indeed a lot, so I checked up on it.
The user supplied an alternative torrent, which I'm pretty sure is the raw rip. This contains a simple form for compression where it stores the faces separately from the background. (The game engine then combines the background and the faces it wants while the game runs.) This way it is only 1.3 GB instead of the 10 GB of the whole thing.

The images in questions is made of 17 base images, which contains the faces of two characters. Each character has 12 face variations, so that is 144 (12*12) variations per base image. Since there are 17 base images, this ends up being 2448 images. For each base image it actually repeats those 12+12 faces, so even in its raw form it uses 425 images.
So while I doubt the game actually uses all those 2448 variations, the game engine certainly have access to them all and the developers still shipped all the faces for all the base images. So while it is a bit extreme, I would have ripped it in the same manner.

The game uses 68.8 MB for storing it (at least when stored as PNG) to store those 2448 variations. It would probably need around 3 GB if stored normally. Using my cgCompress utility it needs 2.7 MB (split across 81 images) and that still has room for improvement. The whole rip only takes up 144 MB compressed in the same manner. That one image is still a zip bomb though...
