I just really dislike the execution of most "southern" accents in writing, it always comes off as really fake and cheesy, like a hillbilly caricature. Most folk with accents down south have more mild accents (written like this it comes off too strong), and the accents are actually unique state-to-state and among specific sub-regions (which is why this feels fake, the minutiae don't match up).

@LeisureLarry Plenty of people find unpleasant or annoying accents a huge turn-off.
