@synpyre:

Likely, but if he's just livestock to play around with, getting a new one on a whim won't be hard either.

@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (and many others):

Aye, that is my thinking about it.

God I love doujins/works like this. They generate such interesting comment sections with people's varied takes and thoughts on the story (and so civil in this one)!

@Megaton

I don’t think it’s a matter of her wanting a new “husband,” but rather the previous ones she was offered tried to escape, forcing her to likely kill them (or them dying in some other vague manner). That’s the only way I can interpret the landlady saying to be careful and not wanting to deal with the clean-up.

EDIT: Don’t get me wrong, I know he’s in trouble. However, I just find it odd that Touka places so much emphasis on him not trying to escape. She makes it clear that he can easily be caught again and likely killed in the process; so considering that they eat humans (and can easily get more), I don’t know why she would care either way. Indeed, there’s the “pet” angle, but it’s apparent that she’s not interested in receiving tribute and nothing she has said suggests she killed her past “gifts” of her volition (at one point she even says she’ll have to take care of him forever).

Overall, I’m just not entirely sure what Touka’s intentions are (she’s obviously dangerous, though), but that’s really what makes this story so interesting imo.

Getting to live with an insect girl who cooks for you and will have sex with you as often as you like... just as long as you don't make her mad. Which I imagine might be difficult to do when the anxiety of knowing that you're not the first one gets to you. Reminds me a little bit of SolopipB's moth girl works.

5/5. Great story.

Then again, I'm probably jaded from reading too much shit on this site.

Something about that line about cows and pigs pissed me off.
Sure, you're welcome to *try* and keep humans as livestock, but don't get pissy if some bite back.

I guess what really got me was her implication that it'd be natural for them to treat humans as cattle which I felt was arrogant.
The only way I'd see it as natural is if they prove they're smarter or tougher, and if they're wary of our police then she's just talking shit.

What the fuck am I saying.

Regura's insect-people settings do not seem to have much in common with each other. In some, the insect thing is a disease. In some it is a vague magic thing. In some the insect people prey on humans. In some they are not preying at all. In some there's a mix of mystical and human killer.
So it's clearly not the same world that all these doujins take place in.

That really triggered me for some reason, but a monster like her probably doesn't understand the concept of sentience or the difference between sentience and non-sentience it's just meat to her. But the really ironic part is that she and all her kind are living in the society and enjoying the infrastructure her "prey" have built instead of enjoying their superiority in the boonies. And they are still apparently afraid when their prey is actually capable and willing to strike back (the police). So she is either delusional, psychotic, stupid or all of the above.

Tldr; Well see how much humans are "just like cows" when there's a dozen bullets in your cranium bitch.

People randomly disappearing in a world where man eating bugmen are known to exist would instantly draw attention and in a modern post 9-11society it would basically be impossible for them to hide. In fact the surveillance would likely be even more extreme if you added "people eating monsters" to all the other things the government needs to watch out for these days. People would demand surveillance cameras on every street corner and there likely would be no more arguments about gun control. And they certainly would not be allowed to actually coexist, we'd be wiping them out.

That chick isn't a real yandere.

The four main reasons are :

1 - Yanderes, typically speaking, go on full-control mode only AFTER they feel deeply insecure - even for yandere levels - about their beloved partners. She never passed by that stage.

2 - Yanderes do UNDERSTAND they are mentally broken individuals of high instability, seeking love, calmness and some sort of salvation through love from their beloved ones.

Hence, their obsession with them. They literally believe the only way in their lives is through a relationship with their beloved.

3 - She lacks a core trait common to all yanderes : obsession to their partners. In this story, she won't hesitate to dispose off of him in case her male partner does something undesirable.

4 - Yanderes typically go to great lengths to protect their relationships with their male partners, frequently using aggressive, cold and abusive methods to achieve their objectives, even resorting to murder sometimes.

At page 34, any real yandere would've murdered her visit even if it meant a slight chance to get caught and hence find her relationship with her male partner at jeopardy.

Such thought never even got mentioned by the narrative of the story, with that specific minor character on that specific part of the plot.

5 - And finally, the biggest mark of a real yandere : undying love, loyalty and kindness towards her male partner. This is completely taken out of question at page 35. No real yandere would've ever looked at their especial male partner in such way.

This is how they look at others.

She's just a psycho, not a real yandere.

How does an entire apartment block full of demi-humans pass any sort of notice? Especially if even the landlady is a demi-human. Inspections, deliveries, random passerby on the street. They should have been caught already. And if they actually eat humans as common knowledge, I don't know how they still coexist with humans, even with heavy restrictions. They would have simply been exterminated.

And I realize that most people don't know this because they've probably never been in that situation, but survival instinct does trump sexual instinct. Unless you have a specific disorder or are under the effect of drugs, which he might actually be, since he mentions that her smell seems to make him feel calm.

Great artwork, great story. Nanbou sure loves their bug girls! They manage to separate details enough so that it's obvious that they're not all the same type of insectoid; it's cool. She does remind me of Michira from the Tourou no Ono story quite a bit.

While I do agree that Touka does fit the site definition of a "yandere", she's a special case, where her motivations for keeping the guy around are conditional, and not nearly as obsessive as is common with traditional yandere mentality. To me, she's allowing him to stay alive under the stipulations that: he doesn't make her unhappy, try to escape, or generally cause any troubles for her
OR
until a suitable, persistent male of her own species arrives with the correct 'tribute'. This story really could have used a part 2.

It's apparent that she does care for him, but more as a pet--an edible pet at that. It's also obvious that she's played this scenario before with other 'tributes', but they have all done things that have displeased her, so they were killed. Touka knows that the guy is listening in on her conversation with the landlady, and purposely mentions him being a "good boy" as both a compliment and warning, so that he understands exactly what his position is. Stockholm Syndrome is the only way he's going to stay alive.

Why do humans allow a dangerous instectoid species to live near their own settlements? It's likely there's some sort of mutual non-aggression pact between the leaders of both factions in the area. However, some of the insects don't follow the rules; it's even possible that the human population in the area lacks the means or might to force them out. The insects seem to be very strong, have protective exoskeletons over parts of their body, and are capable of flight--real advantages in a fight. This is all just speculation though, since there's not much worldbuilding in just this one story.

Sentience and sapience are two term that are often confused. We will examine the difference between the definitions of sentience and sapience, where these words came from and some examples of their use in sentences.

Sentience means the ability to feel things, the ability to perceive things. Any living being that has some degree of consciousness is sentient, including insects, lizards, dogs, dolphins and human beings. The word sentience is derived from the Latin word sentientem, which means feeling. The adjective form is sentient. The word sentience is often misused to mean a creature that thinks.

Sapience
means the ability to think, the capacity for intelligence, the ability
to acquire wisdom. The scientific name for modern man is Homo sapiens. Sapience only describes a living being that is able to think. The word sapience is derived from the Latin word sapientia, which means intelligence or discernment. The adjective form is sapient. Note that sentience is often misused in place of the word sapience.
