It's this bizarre trend in porn -- supposedly, the guys trend towards the uglier side in real porn, too; it's just extra bad in H-doujin because they can draw them as fuckugly as they want. BBM is technically the wrong term, as well, which drives me nuts when I see it getting massively overtagged here -- most of these should be tagged "Gonk," which is when the guys are a deliberate caricature of eternal uglines and generally drawn as warped, exaggerated, and overall off-putting as possible.

I can barely imagine how much I'd hate this site if I were actually LOOKING for Big Beautiful Men when there are some well-meaning but VERY overoptimistic fuckwits who keep misusing the everliving hell out of the term -- well, that and dilf, which should ALSO be reserved for depictions that are actually supposed to be attractive.

That little lesson aside, the gonk does seem to fit this one's overall theme, which is why I'll personally be checking this out properly later more for the interesting-looking bug torture than to actually jack off to it.

A probable reason for why ugly guys are so common in porn is because people are turned-on by the idea of a beautiful girl/guy/what-have-you getting "sullied" by something grotesque. This also explains why guys are usually dark-skinned: partly so that the average Japanese reader is encouraged to ignore them and focus on the one being fucked, and partly because it's an exotic "other" stealing one of their beauties, again part of the fetish I just stated.

My theory is that for some reason artists find it more fun to draw ugly guys. Maybe it feels like a challenge to see how ugly you can make someone while still being "human". If they were meant to be ignored there wouldn't be so many doujins that focus so much on them. My issue would be that almost everything that's not vanilla seems to be filled with either these guys or lolis, neither of which I'm particularly a fan of.

Honestly I think I prefer it this way. It adds to the ambience of the slough of horrible things happening to them. If they were drawn as regular old dudes with greyed out eyes, this series would seem just a bit more generic.

I agree with tj911. As a woman, I personally like the juxtaposition of like the 'hot' girl and the gross and ugly dude or old dude. I don't want that kind of guy in real life at all, but seeing it in hentai, with cute anime girls especially if she gets mind broken, makes the violation hotter, which is what appeals to me about it. I get it's not for everyone, but I imagine part of the appeal in Japan isn't the artist seeing themselves in it (because I obviously don't see myself in it either) but the way the character is defiled, used even. I think this concept isn't as common in a western perspective, just as NTR isn't as popular with (some) western guys. Actually, I remember when NTR and this kinda gonk stuff started getting translated, I shared it with my then boyfriend once, and he totally couldn't handle that she was cheating and this gross guy was doing her. So much was him trying to identify with the guy, that NTR made him irrationally angry. I was surprised-- for me, I was able to compartmentalize and just see it as sex-- just her being debased-- for him, he saw it as a reflection of us, almost. It was interesting.

I also hate the over use of 'dilf and bbm' as tags-- these are totally the wrong terms but have become prolific for some reason in these types of doujins-- those are both for attractive dudes. It makes it harder to find these kind of 'gonk' type stuff for me, and harder for those who want instead want attractive daddy and teacher types (which do nothing for me) to find their stuff, too. I prefer 'old man' (such in the case of say, Helldevice's stuff, that is neither a dilf or a bbm) or 'gonk' or failing that I think 'gross' or man: ugly would be good too.
