So by rewrite does he mean he made up the dialogue by himself and has nothing to do with the original writing? Or did he rewrite another translation into English. I is confused by this concept.

@Zweihaender Speaking as someone who has worked on at least one big official English translation, I think you and some others here are really overreacting.

The only reason anyone should get up in arms about a rewrite is if the uploader doesn't make it clear that it's a rewrite. Because at that point, you've crossed into plagiarism. But Ezra is up front about that, so it hardly qualifies as theft. This type of work is harmless. It's lazy, at worst. A proper English translation will come along, sooner or later.

Whether or not a rewrite is good or bad depends on the re-writer. I don't think Ezra's writing is anything special, but I feel the same way about the vast majority of actual translations here. A lot of porn writers are pretty bad, and a good English translation isn't going to do anything to fix that. Even as a writer, I Just don't see other people's work being so sacred that it's somehow a violation to write an alternate script to an existing work. That just seems like putting artists on a pedestal, and that's not a good way to look at people.

If someone wants to make shit up and doesn't try to hide that their work isn't a proper translation, it's not hurting anybody. If someone did a rewrite of something I wrote, I'm sure I wouldn't be thrilled. But as long as they're up front about their rewrite, it's hardly a violation. At worst it's only marginally worse than illegally uploading an artists work without their consent.

I can't speak for how Kouji would feel, but if someone came out with an English rewrite of his comic that I proofread last year (https://e-hentai.org/g/1057551/d058a74b24/) it's not going to sully what I've done. Had the rewrite come out first, that just means people would be even more excited to see an actual translation instead of a rewrite. People liked the translation I helped make, and no one can take that from me.

All this outrage seems extremely silly.

What a waste of time on the rewriter's part. You already put in the work of cleaning and typesetting, but chose to re-write the story

If you had actually got someone who understood Japanese to provide you a script, you'd actually be contributing to the doujin translation scene

Given how long they've been doing this, and that they aren't deterred by negative responses, I assume they do it because they enjoy it.

Saying it's a waste of time, because it doesn't provide the community with something most people want, seems kind of egocentric.

Having read both a translation of the original and this rewrite, I have to say that I kinda prefer the rewrite. I mean, this one explains why they have to sneak around. The original does not, despite what the text says

I don't inherently hate rewrites. I just hate how some rewriters don't even bother with a font that looks right or cleaning things up.

I bet that if Erza didn't tag this as a rewrite and uploaded it elsewhere under a different username, chances are that there wouldn't be as much vitriol as we are seeing here now.

Besides, what's to say that erza isn't a proper fan-translator and that this is his private project at attempting to clean up the reputation of rewrites. I mean, it's pretty much just hentai fanfic.
