Someone else made this point, but the short answer is "Feige likes simplicity". Like if you compared BvS, Bruce sees a time traveling Barry Allen after his Knightmare Batman scene getting killed by evil Superman with the implied logic being these will pay off in the follow up movie, it's deemed too confusing for the general audiences and thus bad.

With this above, rather than trying to explain why Hela is visibly older than Loki while being his kid and all while wondering who the mother and all of Loki's weird shit, the simple solution? She's the older sister you never knew of. Also why Thanos has the gauntlet? The one in Odin's vault is fake for some reason.

Besides Super Shanko's comment, the way they introduced her and Thanos and whatnot, its possible she was supposed to be the stand in/allegory for Mistress Death in the MCU. Which can give them an out for Thanos winning.
