J seems to have multiple projects going right now, and I can understand that, as a artist sometimes you just want to draw something different than what you've been working on for awhile, maybe he got bored with some of his other ideas, maybe he wanted to change it up before he lost interest in the characters all together. Whatever the reason i'll not judge him based on taking a break, but some of the stories in some of them did kind of warrant a ending.
