Fondue's name pun is interesting, because it make sense in the plot. In the raw her first name is spelt with four kanjis and this is rare in Japanese. There are two ways of looking at it: A) Her parents were foreigners that transliterated her name to the closest Japanese kanji they can find; or B) Her name was carelessly picked by her parents by the interesting foreignness of the sound without context of meaning. Both hints that her parents were something not right,

B) seems to be the more likely here, as it's actually not that uncommon to find people with weird names like this in real life Japan. It's a indicator for parents being idiots or former/present delinquents, and punned "DQN names" or "kira-kira names (sparkly name)" in the Japanese slang.

Glad someone else realizes this, unlike all these other comments. You don't even need to read the raws or understand Japanese to understand there is a correlation with shitty name and shitty parents. Her jaded attitude is also another result of her fucked childhood, and you can see throughout the book how self-deprecative she is when responding to him. Hell the MC even mentions how he's never even seen her smile before.

Anyways I like broken girls and Aoki Kanji is always good shit so two thumbs up from me.
