World is a blighted stain on the franchise. I would heartily recommend starting with Portable 2nd G on the PSP or 3G on the 3DS/Wii U.

@Penchinon Why is World bad? I've been seeing mixed reviews but I've also always wanted a main title on PC. Why should or shouldn't I get it?

@AvidWebFan World is fine, though it has a dire lack of monster variety compared to earlier entries in the series. There are a contingency of vets that are angry about the "casualization" of the series, but they aren't really worth paying attention to. That being said, the PC version of World specifically was a bit busted last I heard (performance and connectivity issue afaik), so maybe hold off on that for a while.

Think it's largely due to how unstable the servers were when released on PC, a lot of negative reviews on Steam were saying that it's a great game but they couldn't recommend it due to that. Also it's a poor port, they didn't even bother allowing remapping of keyboard and mouse controls.
