The company (Tsuburaya Productions) behind the Gridman Franchise was aggressively going after doujin artists and producers of merch, it was based on an internal policy of against Hentai material of their female characters (which primarily effected the Ultraman Franchise, the other series that they mange... Gridman was dormant prior to SSSS.). SSSS.Gridman's popularity and a wave of backlash (as well as fanart) put a stop to most that. It really only effects doujin mech when it crosses with the company's own plans (Like body pillows, they will likely put a stop to any production of such given that Tsuburaya themselves are likely mandating one in the near future) at this point.
