This is my gripe with Artoria romances in doujins, regardless of the incarnation. When you've read Fate and just what it takes to lead her away from her path, you can't help but be annoyed that doujin artists skim over the fact at just HOW MUCH it takes for Artoria Pendragon to even wish for a step away from her path as King. I know this is porn and I don't mind the sex (I'm here for it after all), but when the doujin artists write up about how Artoria gushes over Ritsuka, I just can't help but feel it's a fucking disservice to Artoria's personality. They're basically devaluing the beauty of Artoria Pendragon's romance by simplifying it in such away. Shirou and Artoria went through blood sweat and tears and couldn't reconcile what they were with what they wanted from each other, and despite ultimately loving one another, they couldn't betray who they were. I know these are "alternate" Artorias, but save for the joke character versions of her (MHX, etc), the crux of their beliefs and stances, their adherence, should remain the same. At best, a Ritsuka x Artoria romance should be just casual sex without the reconciliation of the emotions. Ritsuka does little to nothing in the mold of Shirou, for example, to actually have that romance earned. Kojima Saya at least acknowledged the aspect of Tamamo and that what she does is ultimately cheating on her beloved; it doesn't build try to build any sort of connection.

Good art, but that sappy conversation it's trying to portray as romantic cheapens the character. It might as well be Mash or Serenity. Those lines of dialogue suit them better.

You're just happy to accept romance that cheap? This may be a "different" Artoria, but this is in essence an Artoria who went through the same experience and tribulations that her other counterparts did; it's even blatant that the only difference between the two is that one pulled the Rhongomyniad as their guiding weapon instead of the sword. If you correlate the two, what does this say about the romance here? It's essentially the same as someone trying to put Diarmuid and Artoria together on romantic terms. You want them to fuck, that's all well and good, but trying to put emotion as a bridge when you KNOW just what it took for Saber herself to even HESITATE on her path of hypocritical self-destruction, you're just happy playing the game and cheapening the crux of a character's thresholds? ESPECIALLY when the scenario writers themselves declare effort?

I'm all for porn and good art, but the dialogue here is horrible if you know just what the core of Artoria's character is. This essentially turns her into your standard Ice Queen-dere character instead of someone whose love feels EARNED and precious. The person writing the justification here does it so cheaply that you can't help but point it out. If they didn't try to do it at all, I wouldn't care, but they did. So it's to be pointed out.

Considering this doesn't deviate that far from FGO and the fact that the core personality deviation between the Artorias, it just cheapens the character as a whole. Might as well just shorten her path in Fate to "girl who was never treated like a girl before is treated like a girl by Shirou and falls for him" like the rest of the idiots who just scan Reddit and Tumblr for tidbits instead of knowing WHO this character is and what it TOOK just to have her reflect on what she is.

Why not do that?

also consider that they were in her subconscious the interlude played out like a secret garden which really affects the heart. the requirements are 5th bond level and second ascension at the point she willingly reveals her face and opening up. keep in mind 5th bond in mashs case is dying for you and this was released before bond 10 was a thing. This was also a callback to her humanity which doesnt have much of in any case save for post f/sn and there is also the question how long is the period of time you fight singularities with her. Shirou conquered Artorias heart in little over two weeks. Ritsuka at this point could have spent up to a year with her. Shirous romance is the one that truly forced into that short timespan and honestly it didnt get going until after Rin forced their hand that admiration spured love. Don't get me wrong FGO is self insert, but at least it presents a feasible timeline if one waifu is focused on.

I don't give a shit about the fact that it's; I already said that the art is excellent. The dialogue feels fucking off. Imagine reading a vanilla doujin of Gilgamesh and Lancer proclaiming their love for each other. It's warping character motivations and trying to justify them as the background to the sex. This wouldn't matter at all if the justification is on point. Read the doujinka's dialogue. It's like he's trying to emphasize your standard kuudere love shit and it feels off knowing just what Artoria's background is. Hell, Double Spiral did a better job of making Artoria match up with Archer and Archer's essentially forgotten everything that made him Shirou. There's cheap vanilla and there's meaningful romance. I just hate when a writer essentially warps what characters are at their core just to favor a new audience. I mean, Kojima Saya acknowledges Tamamo cheating on someone who's implied to be Hakuno on Tamamo.

In-game, Medea's motivations towards romance are the same as they were in her canon incarnation; the most she feels towards you is "sibling love". Doujin writers of Medea, when prying into her motivation, bring that up; they don't leave that out. People writing up Ritsuka and Artoria romances don't even ACKNOWLEDGE just what the circumstances have to be for Artoria to emotionally attach herself to someone. If they'd written up Artoria's stance proper, I wouldn't be typing this, but it's essentially "OH I JUST NEEDED TO BE TREATED LIKE A WOMAN". Just make it some wild romp sex. The emotional validation by this doujinka is fucking cheap and irritating. It's the same annoyance I felt when Batman and Batgirl got together in that Killing Joke film. It's inconsistency because the writer wanted to make something profound but without understanding the core character, cheapens it.
