I really put my baby-bitch image editing skills to work on this one. That book on page 2 took 10000 hours in MS Paint.

If you want to point out any mistakes, ask questions, comment, etc, feel free. I'm still pretty new to this whole scanlating thing, so I'll take any advice I can get.

The PNGs you uploaded are full color, and have an alpha layer. But they only use 256 colors. You can reduce the filesize a lot by changing to greyscale color, and removing the transparency, without changing the image at all. Notice that the translation is almost 4x the size of the raw.

If you really want to reduce the filesize, you need to convert it to Index mode and reduce the size of the index to 64 colors. This is what the raw does. It'll mess with the text a bit (since the added text uses 256 colors), but I don't think it'll be too bad.

Thanks for the advice. I noticed the raws were in Index after a bunch of googling to figure out why the text looked so bad, haha. I didn't realize there would be such a difference between RGB and Greyscale though, I wasn't thinking about filesizes at all. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Okay, if it's making the text look bad, then don't go all the way to index mode. But greyscale color mode should be about half the size of RGB. And you're only using the greyscale colors, so this will reduce the filesize without hurting image quality at all.

Same with the alpha layer. You probably need that on the PSD (for text or other layers), but it can be removed from the final image, since you aren't using any transparency there. This was about 20% smaller on a file I checked. Not as big a saving as greyscale, but still significant.
