Tatsuya Ishida's Sinfest Webcomic
site:http://www.sinfest.net/

**Personal Note**

Despite people's personal opinions on the artist political views, this is still a cute story with very pretty artwork and should be appreciated for it's positive merits.

Why would you post this shit here? Seems kind of ironic considering the author's radical position on pornography.

Once upon a time, this guy used to be a good comic writer. Now it's all about "MUH FEMINISM AND DOWN WITH THE PATRIARCHY."

It's a shame the content is so shit, because his art style seems to have massively improved. Used to be serviceable in a Calvin and Hobbes way, now it looks interesting and unique. Still, again, too bad it's wasted because of the fucking awful radical feminist dialogue, shitty soapbox of a plot that never went anywhere other than SJW bullshit, and no humor or smart satire whatsoever.

Just because the Erma comic and strip found a second home here doesn't mean any too bit shitty B&W strip should be uploaded here. Especially not shit like Ishida's straw feminism crap.

He's right that women shouldn't be commoditized, and that pornography, prostitution, and human trafficking can be serious problems, but this is just superficial pandering. Nothing about this is "radical" or "revolutionary," it's just bourgeois sexual revanchism dressed up in the garb of radical politics. As a political stance it's exactly as retrograde and reactionary as the "Johnbies" he pillories, the "SJW" flip of the coin to the "MRA," two halves of the same thoughtless feel-good Liberal identity politics that portrays problems as resulting entirely from actions performed by individuals out of some sort of inherent, essential quality of the person, rather than the result of a complex interplay of systemic variables.

Just like all reactionaries, he's comfortable in the system and enjoys the things it provides him, but has to Other-ize the origin of all the negative results that come of it and transfer them from the system itself onto some outside actor. His naive, bourgeois moralism prevents him from seeing the ultimate conclusion, that it's Capitalism as a system, which turns everyone in it into a commodity for someone else's profit. Instead he has to conjure up a fanciful vision of an all-encompassing Illuminati-esque conspiratorial Patriarchy (or I guess you could say, Illu-man-ati) that is exploiting women out of some sort of malevolence inherent to maleness, rather than face the fact that prostitution etc is just one facet of a totality of systematic exploitation, of women, of men, children, elderly, the living, and even the dead. No, it's a lot easier to just imagine a cartoonishly evil male supervillain than face up to complicity in the sort of system that makes prostitution possible at all.

But thinking and moral wrangling are hard. It's so much easier to make a bunch of self satisfied comics about punishing the evil manspiracy than to have to deal with cold, hard reality, with all its moral uncertainties and grey areas, and the fact that the "good guys" and the "bad guys" aren't readily recognizable by their obvious sexual characteristics.

I checked in on this because I USED to read Sinfest religiously. It used to be cute, and it used to make good points. Then the character "Glossy" showed up, and the creator started on his misandry crusade. He even started going so far as to mock the reasonable male fans who objected to his one sided pillorying of all things male. About 26 pages in. I stopped. It's not the same trash as back then; it's worse. bluerum makes a more informed and elegant argument than I can. He states in words what I feel about Ishida and what he did to Sinfest. I'm glad I stood up for my principles and stopped reading the webcomic years ago, and am saddened that the exodus of many of his readers at that moment in time has apparently had no effect at all on Ishida's consideration of his own positions and opinions.

I tried running through it right quick, so as to enjoy the art and ignore the text. Unfortunately the modern human brain is conditioned to do the opposite.

a1b2c3 Based on the artists name though, it's probably meant to be Japanese rather than Chinese, and afaik 刀 can be used to mean sword.

good old tatsuya ishida, just chugging along doing his thing. the way he turned his comic around is a lot more noteable than honestly most things in webcomicdom. haven't read it in a long time but every little mention like this cheers me up in a way i can't really put my finger on.

I want to parrot what n3k0chan said, but honestly when you go to the webcomic website and it reads how the author opened a forum for "anti-pornography, anti-prostitution. It will favor the radical feminist perspective over a liberal or conservative one;" I'm starting to have my doubts. It's one of those cases that to the layperson it becomes difficult to tell whether they're just taking the piss out of the culture that has arisen over the past several years or that they really are drinking this kool-aid. This is the problem with radicals and extreme activists. They have this tendency to push their propaganda and ideology so hard that to the rest of the normal public their message becomes self-satire; a cautionary lesson of what happens to your message when it goes too far. Who can take it serious when you yourself seems so crazy? That's not how your organize people to a common cause. You appeal to the common folk's sensibilities and logic and as the organization grows through the more central thinking population who are easier to obtain, the outliers that are more staunch in their beliefs tend to fall towards the majority.

I think the point that we're having such rational discussions on a website largely dedicated to porn speaks volumes more than anything else.

Damn shame. Sinfest was the first webcomic I really read; found it through a Winamp skin of Monique, back when I first really got to get online. Then yeah, full SJW, it lost it's luster, it's joviality, it's life. I used to check back in for the yearly dues of blowing the old guy up, but even that got old.

Is there supposed to be a cohesive plot here. I know that this is kind of a current events kind of thing but it feels like three panels of digressions, only to flip the page and get another three panels of digression. Is it supposed to be funny. Like regardless of political opinions, what the fuck is actually going on here? I could actually get down with this if it saw fit to actually tell a story, but that would require him to get to the fucking point and SAY something. Make a fucking argument, show me the plight of these people. Every single "character" in this comic is just a symbol, loosely interacting with other symbols, which is incredibly ironic for a piece trying to preach about individualism and human rights. Every piece like this, including some of marvels less than stellar new IPs, dehumanize their characters by making them representative of a broad demographic rather just a member of said demographic. Its counter intuitive to their argument, if they've even successfully made one, and also kind of prejudice. Like going up and saying, "I speak for all of my people." please don't, no one elected you to do that, don't put words into the mouths of a whole demographic, and then whats worse, the rhetoric that people of that demo who don't agree are just shackled and indoctrinated. Fuck off with that, I don't care what your movement is or who you think you're fighting for, that's some weak discourse.
