@nuggistrike actually it's 10,000 children and 30,000 women. Original japanese uses the character 万 which means 10,000. Chinese translation is more accurate here.

Also, page 11 the translation about the barrier makes 0 sense. The Chinese translation says "who would have thought the barrier would have lasted this long". Which is still out of the blue (as there are no references to any "barriers" before this page) but makes more sense at least considering the townsfolk know how to use summoning magic so it's not too much of a stretch to believe they can use sealing magic. But it still comes out of the blue.
