I always see people saying the "age of consent is 13 in Japan" but a few minutes of googling proves otherwise: "In Japan, the Japanese Penal Code sets a minimal age of consent of 13 regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Yeah, the 'AoC in Japan is 13' is probably the biggest misinfo 'fact' most people know when it comes to that whole debate. Think of it like America when it comes to Federal law, state law, etc. The minimum across the entire country of Japan is 13, but prefectures can set their own age, and every single one of them does. This in practice does raise the age of consent to higher than 13 across Japan.

Not keen to get into this debate beyond that LOL.
