Funny (and Sad) fact: After being separated (and probably cursed) in that cave, Ukyo and Ryoga didn't talk to each other again until the end of the manga...

Because bad fanfics assassinated her character and people like you who never read Ranma 1/2 mistook them as canon?

Akane's a gud gurl dat didn't do nothin?

Maybe YOU should read the series before you try to bluff others. Lets just pick ONE of the awful things she does from each volume to see if she truly is being misrepresented.
Vol 1:
Insults Ranma because of his gender and curse, sabotaging the friendship she herself initiated not an hour before. Hypocritically sets what will be her double-standard for the series; that Ranma seeing her unclothed makes him a pervert, but she cannot be pulled for walking in on and staring at a nude Ranma, and is in fact by virtue of being a girl, completely above any criticism in this matter. Reacts to a taunt (which was instigated by her insults) by attacking Ranma from behind, knocking him/her unconscious.

Vol 2:
Attacks Ranma with a kendo stick because his girl form is better proportioned than she is. (No insults, here, just Ranma noting that the clothes don't fit well.)

Vol 3:
Leaves an obviously paralysed Ranma to freeze on the dojo roof for the night.

Vol 4:
Akane decides to put Ranma is mortal peril because she's angry with him, by dousing him with cold water while in Shampoo's embrace. Not only displays no remorse for this action, but maintains it was just.

Vol 5:
Feels insulted when Ranma won't reveal his greatest (and secret) fear to her. Looking forward to Volume 8, you'll see he was completely justified not to trust her.

Vol 6:
Akane kicks Ranma away from her when he tries to prevent her from falling to the ground, right into an ostensibly deadly Ryoga.

Vol 7:
Attacks Ranma with a vacuum cleaner when he tries to protect her from Happosai. This was after proclaiming she needs no protection. Happi promptly proves her wrong, but she doesn't apologise to Ranma.

Vol 8:
Arbitrarily decides that Ranma is a sick fetishist thief - while verbally noting as an aside that because of his curse (which he has no say in) his body has always been 'sick and twisted' - and suggests he seek psychological assistance. Upon discovering Ranma was being truthful, Akane makes no effort to apologise, or indeed make any acknowledgement that she should do so, and shows no remorse for her words and actions.

Vol 9:
Assumes the worst of Ukyo, whose crime is being her rival for Ranma, and the best of Ryoga, once accomplice to her own kidnapping, and whom she's witnessed to be potentially murderous in volume 6.

Vol 10:
Gleefully takes advantage of Shampoo's curse to terrify Ranma when he refuses to go along with her deception. The sheer joy Akane seems to take in abusing Ranma's phobia really illustrates what a wretched piece of work she is.
Bonus: She also tells someone she believes is a lesbian to just find a boyfriend.

Vol 11:
Deliberately spills a kettle of boiling water on a girl she only suspects may be Ranma in disguise.

Vol 12:
Elects to believe someone she knows to be deceitful over a person she knows is generally honest. Refuses to even hear an explanation, attacking Ranma.

Vol 13:
Attacks Ranma when she overhears he's more concerned with undoing the Ultimate Weakness Moxibustion than with her; then refuses to reveal what Tofu told her to help Ranma.

Vol 14:
Considers Ranma pathetic in allowing Shampoo to use his ailurophobia to manipulate him, something she herself has also done.

Vol 15:
Infuriated with Ranma and Ukyo when he stays at the Ucchans.

Vol 16:
Knocks out Ranma with a birdhouse when he defensively calls her 'macho'.

Vol: 17 (I'll skip volume 18 because I have to mention two things here):
Pulps Ranma's face when he can't identify what the embroidery is supposed to be (no one can, but she takes out her anger on him).
&
Slaps Ranma for saving Nabiki (her own sister), and calls off her engagement with him. For SAVING HER OWN SISTER.

Vol 19:
Attacks Ranma with a chair when he doesn't want to eat the poisonous lunch she made for him.

Vol 20:
Forced Ranma into the a catnip jacket and kicks him into a flurry of cats (his greatest fear).

Vol 21:
Shows no concern for Ranma's well being when he finally eats one of the sakura-mochi, only the prediction. She then hits Ranma away in fear of seeing the result after dogging him to eat in the first place.

Vol 22:
Sucker-punches Ranma hard enough to put him in a full body cast.

Vol 23:
'Offers' to cook for the family when Kasumi is ill. Is angry that the others aren't thrilled by this and make plans to escape, but decides that Ranma, who is the only one with the courage to openly insult her cooking, is the also only one of them deserving of a thorough thrashing.

Vol 24:
N/A because she barely appears in the volume.

Vol 25:
Akane ignores Ranma's honest explanation and jumps to the most illogical conclusion in the history of man.

Vol 26:
Attacks Ranma when he accurately surmises from Akane's cooking (which is not poisonous) that the forest must hold some great secret.

Vol 27:
As in Volumes 9 & 12, Akane toys with Ryoga's feelings to spite Ranma.

Vol 28:
Sucker punches (or rather mallets) Ranma for being in her room after he asks her for a favour..

Vol 29:
Uses the Fuo Yanshan (which is similar to a flamethrower) on a paralysed Ranma because Shampoo was trying to kiss him.

Vol 30:
Nonchalantly asks Ranma if he tried to rape Hinako or not, and not only doesn't apologise for her outrageous assumptions and unprovoked attack, but makes no allusion to she herself being out of line.

Vol 31:
Kicks Ranma hard enough to send him flying when Ukyo asks to share his umbrella

Vol 32:
While using a magical dogi/suit that bestows unearned power, Akane concludes that Ranma is simply jealous of her superior skills as a martial artist, and tells him so. Later, she announces while pummelling Ranma that if he defends himself or tries to forcefully remove the Dogi from her that she'll never forgive him.

Vol 33:
Akane wrongfully allows the blame for all the disorder in the household to be shoved onto Ranma.

Vol 34:
Stands idly by while Ranma's deranged mother tries to kill 'the pervert' in her room.

Vol 35:
A fucking doozy: Inadvertently admits that she attacked Ranma not really sure that he did anything wrong.

Vol 36:
Kicks Ranma's face through a mirror from behind after he mocks her impression of his mother.

Vol 37:
Hits Ranma with her bike when a controlled Shampoo almost kisses him.

Vol 38:
N/A because she spends a lot of time incapacitated.

So, I guess all of this was just fanon. Or maybe, Akane was an entitled, hypocritical cunt in the manga after all,

Hm. Some of what you described is frankly akin to accusing Bugs Bunny of being a psychopath just because he engages in slapstick violence. Which I am not inclined to, because it's Bugs Bunny. Same here with...well, most all of the Ranma 1/2 characters quite frankly.

As for the rest of it, a lot of it is teenage insecurity taken up to 11, but necessarily out of the realm of reason. Sometimes young people are more emotion and reason, and that is not a failing of theirs. It is merely a part of being young, inexperienced, and thrust into a situation one is uncertain about.

Fanfics tend to "dramatize" too much the comedy that was Ranma1/2, surely was action packed and had their serious/drama/romance moments but it was mainly a comedy, either we have to acknowledge pretty much every character acted as comedy relief at some point or then treat every one as some sort of psycho in different degrees.

As for this pairing, well, shippers gonna ship. I like this doujin because not much is seen about anything of them nowadays.

@Ficfactor
I checked some chapters form the manga and most what you desrcibed is true for my surprise, I also thought it ws because fanfics there was a bad take about Akane.
After reading it recently, I also want to point some things about herfrom some chapters you talked about:

"Vol 13: Attacks Ranma when she overhears he's more concerned with undoing the Ultimate Weakness Moxibustion than with her; then refuses to reveal what Tofu told her to help Ranma."

-Which reveals she doesn´t care about his problems, most of the time for her they are just petty things (which is true in some cases) except when involve her in some way, also she couldn't say ANY good thing about Ranma aside for being strong when he asked for it, she couldn't think about anything to even reassure her own fiancce who was in panic and depressed for being weak.

"Vol 14: Considers Ranma pathetic in allowing Shampoo to use his ailurophobia to manipulate him, something she herself has also done."

-Even Ryouga wouldn't do that, he thougt of using a cat against Ranma as something dishonorable, RYOUGA of all people.

"Vol 25: Akane ignores Ranma's honest explanation and jumps to the most illogical conclusion in the history of man."

-In the whole manga she NEVER listens to him, she just hears what is convenient to her or what she thinks (one-sidedly most times) its about her own insecurities, in that chapter for her literally everything about Ranma side is blah blah blah minus things he says related at her own insecurities (small chest, bad cooking, her martial arts subpar to others, being called uncute as response at her own insults, etc)

Actually that's one of her worse traits in the whole series, she never really listen to him and just hears what is convenient for her because she's a sucker for feeling always as the victim constantly or being praised undeservedly.

"Vol 26: Attacks Ranma when he accurately surmises from Akane's cooking (which is not poisonous) that the forest must hold some great secret."

-Its even worse, Ranma is shocked about Akane's cooking, he SAYS its delicious, Akane is suprised and giddy about his own admission and wants hear more about it but then he's silent, pondering in his head why the food tastes so good but he NEVER SAYS OUT LOUD anything about the forest infuence, he just concludes it IN HIS OWN MIND, but Akane being the impatient brat she is with Ranma, kicks him off not only for his LACK of response, but it was because he didn´t KEEP praising her cooking. She just can't accept her own faults.

Also is VERY interesting how in Shinnosuke case she just kind of slapped him when he sees her almost naked, while with Ranma she thrashes him a lot of times just because.

"Vol 38: N/A because she spends a lot of time incapacitated."
-There's a "lil' bit" kind of related to what you pointed in vol 25, about Akane never listening to Ranma's explanations:

*BIG SPOILERS* *BIG SPOILERS* *BIG SPOILERS*

After his battle against Saffron, Ranma confesses his feelings to Akane, by feelings I mean a lot more than a simple "I love you" (that is the only thing Akane takes from the whole exchange, the thing most convenient FOR HER) he expresses his insecurities, he says he never couldn't express himself very well, then he "ALLEGEDLY" says that he loves her (I felt its allegedly because when he says it isn't inside a text bubble, its inside a sparkle like thing which usually is reserved for thoughts), Akane then claims to have heard every word from him, but later she just repeats like a parrot what he "said" about loving her (which is allegedly), but she never does anything to help him with his insecurities or adresses anything about it.

Even worse, she knows about how desesperate he is with his wish to become 100% male yet she hides the nannichuan from him and threathens him about the consecuences of not marrying her while being the most vage about it, like many of his other crazy siancées have done before and even Ranma is put off from that statement, then later she has the gall to blame him for the whole fiasco.

*END OF BIG SPOILERS*

While I don't consider her Akane a cunt, she is not the character that "cant do wrong" its portrayed in most fics.

@Cfarb
I agree, I'm just bothered somewhat by how most of the fandom lately sides with Akane and make her almost a victim of Ranma when in fact its the other way around more or less, but in generla both Ranma and Akane have to mature a lot and her family and peers certainly doesn't help them in anyway in that regard, mayber the whole marriage fiasco at the end was for the better.
