you will NEVER drop things like STDs or rape down to zero (or rather it very VERY unlikely). Sex ed is designed to educate so people can make informed decisions but at the same time take a person with AIDS for example, said person might want sexual interactions but a majority of people would turn them away if they knew so said person LIES because of this.

sex is a lot like driving in that you could be the safest and most cautious 'driver' to ever life but you interact with a virtually endless number of people that AREN'T you thus you can still get hurt but being safe does reduce the how much of a part YOU (the informed individual) play in any 'accidents'

Being real about this, all this argument about "prevention" and whatnot is not holding water anymore. Sex ed has been a mandatory part of the education curriculum for preteen students in American schools for over 30 years now, and all we have to show for it is a drastic uptick in the rate of STI transmission and underage pregnancy. I'm not saying that the abstinence-only method of teaching kids about sex is the right way to go, but it's pretty obvious that sex education in schools is NOT working.

Unless, of course, the goal of sex ed all along was to create two or three generations of nothing but underage mothers with herpes.
