The only thing I'm upset about is that there's no real closure for his story arc, I kind wish the whole manga was about ichiki, he's the only one I find interesting as a character. I appreciate how he's trying to figure himself out, he knows how he wants to be seen, but not who he really is on the inside. I can respect that, but the author just plays it up for jokes without really saying anything. I mean, its porn, whatever, I don't find the situation all that offensive, Sawai's inability to even talk to him after without freaking out like a jackass is not put into a good light, he's very obviously overreacting in the eyes of everyone else. If anything, his coworkers are worse. Their response to seeing his trauma to having his sexuality put into question is to reinforce is irrational fears by encouraging Ichiki push himself on him again. I suppose what I don't get is why they'd set up this conflict and then just drop it before it went anywhere. I mean, for the sake of my dick they could have at least fucked again in the elevator.

That being said, am I right in thinking the whole "squishy squishy" thing is him remembering the feeling of Ichiki's balls? If it is that's actually kinda funny.

@Deidmann this is an old ass comment but I'm a trans woman so I feel compelled to respond. Sawai's "squishy squishy" comments are referring to when they got sex in the bath. He touched Ichiki's penis and it traumatized him.

Your comment on knowing how she wants to be seen by not who she is inside is an interesting point. She's presenting femme and said in a previous chapter that she perceives herself as a woman, but never denies when people refer to her as a man. Like she know how she feels but not how to quantify it, which is an understandable dilemma for a trans girl in 90s Japan. And I gotta agree, she's easily the most interesting character here. I just loved her the whole way through and she's really adorable. I don't like how she thinks she needs to like men to be more of a woman, but that's a pretty common struggle that trans women deal with. I loved that her response to the girls having sex with her in order to "make her feel like a man" resulted in her getting tits and leaning harder into her transition. But I guess she doesn't have bottom dysphoria, which only makes Sawai's freak out that much more frustrating. Like he thought she was totally sexy and cute and funny when he thought she didn't have a penis.

For a 90s manga, this was surprisingly aware of gender issues, even if it misstepped a little. Like I can't even read her as a futa because they use so much gender identity language like being a woman inside and the t-slur. There was no magical transformation, she just takes care of her body, got top surgery, and wears women's clothing, all very real transition steps. It is a bummer this never saw a conclusion.

BTW, this wasn't the only trans girl work the mangaka did. I sense a running theme...
