Mx4_1204 i actually did my research on these, they are indeed soft drinks, as in true dagashi kashi fashion there actually is a wikipedia article with a butt ton of sources, here is a excerpt from the Japan's National Soft Drink Association (google translated of course) "Although it is a drink, it can also be enjoyed as an ice candy."

I guess "soft drink" is technically accurate. 清涼飲料 does translate to "soft drink", but in the literal sense of "non-alcoholic, non-dairy". In English, soft drink is typically only used for soda or carbonated drink, and though these things can be filled with anything (including coffee: https://thumbnail.image.rakuten.co.jp/@0_mall/nikkori-syokunohiroba/cabinet/4901622003232.jpg), the more common use is with fruit juice.

I was more surprised that these things existed in other countries. I've only ever seen them here in the Philippines. Now I'm wondering if we actually did get them from Japan.

Shades of Blue i 100% agree, if this wasn't left alone for so long i wouldn't even touch it, especially if there was a possibility that i could read it without all the trouble of translating from a language you don't speak(which in my experience is 10x harder than regular translating). There's a concept in economics known as Gresham's law, which, stated most briefly, is "Bad money drives out good." What this means that if you have two different kinds of money in circulation -- one being "good money", like a silver coin whose face value is close to the bulk value of the metal, and the other "bad money", like paper bills that don't have intrinsic value -- that the "good money" will be replaced in circulation by the "bad money", as people hoard the "good money" for its bulk value and only circulate the "bad money".
