The -kun and -chan honorifics aren't gender exclusive.
The difference is just that -chan is used more regulary on kids and girls and -kun is more frequently used in, say, teenagers.
Both -kun and -chan imply a certain familiarity/closeness while -san (also applied to both genders) is the formal one.
