Sometimes it seems like forever between comics.... Oh wait, it’s nearly been forever.

With this first part of Harriet Cooper and the Wizard's Sacrifice Spell 4, we'll be slooooowly wrapping up the first volume of HC. Endings are always bittersweet, but I hope this final chapter gives closure to Harriet Cooper.

That being said, once I'm done with my other major project aka Fallen Star, in...2029 hum hum, perhaps I’ll return for the second volume of HC as it has been scripted...so very long ago.
All I have left to say is, I know it's been a very long wait, but enjoy!

As usual, a huge thank you to Mpgrey for his unwavering dedication to make this project as perfect as possible and for keeping everyone up-to-date on the blog. A big thank you to JNightShade too for his support and ideas all along the project.

To be completely honest, I feel things could have been a lot better, given the next part will be the final part I feel its going to feel rushed. Having to Fully corrupt Minea, Harriet and re-corrupting the professor all in the span of that issue. If they hadn't been purified the last issue and Minea's corruption was completed this issue I feel I wouldn't get the feeling that it won't be feeling cramped and rushed next time. Also I feel it would have been interesting and better corruption wise if Minea betrayed Harriet when moving her on the chessboard and Harriet was the one who fell to the Vampire Queen and not the bishop.

I actually thought this was pretty great, if short. I would've liked another 100+ pages of corrupting chess tbh. What happened if something was corrupted by a king? What about if a pawn was promoted to a queen then corrupted? I also would've loved some post corruption scenes of the chess pieces.

The chess theme is ingenious. It could be an entire new story by itself. To be honest, I would love to see the boy corrupted by the stallion and become a hot, bad tgirl.

Defiantly like the chess scene and all it's corruptions, have to check the moves but get the feeling Shinra tried to do his homework on chess moves "then" made the scenes within that framework (just theory on part of why it was delayed). It could have gone longer for sure, and the corrupted pieces could have stuck around BUT doing that would complicate an already complicated game if pieces were able to turn on their former side...way it went kept it simple and gave the good guys an obvious out when she realized it was running off AI pure attack logic. Maybe see the chess pieces again in hell toward the end, or in an extra content gallery of unused renders?

A bunch of "ominous premonition" stuff, but nothing really happened. Throwing "corruption" at disposable random characters that may not even actually exist is like a random 3 seconds video-loop...It has no weight to it.

But, again, guess I'm the odd one here.

On the blog, more people posted reactions similar to yours, so you're not alone or at fault for having a different opinion or anything. Basically what this is, is a first part of a final chapter that was never intended to be broken up. Shinra simply released it like this because it was taking so long to make everything in its entirety. Normally these pages would have been part of a much bigger chapter in which, obviously, much more is going to happen. By releasing these pages separately, we knew that they were going to be judged differently and more harshly than otherwise because, like you say, not all that much has happened in this chapter so far story-wise.
Saying that "nothing" really happened is too strict, though. We clearly saw progression in Minea's downfall, and the good guys have gotten a clear purpose as to what they can do to let their side be victorious. They're just as important plot segments to the overall story that JNightshade and Shinra want to tell as plot segments that involve the bad guys doing their stuff (and what leads to far juicier pages.)

When I saw the pages for the first time, I had the exact same opinion as you: it would've been tempting to play around much more with all these new character models and make the scene even longer, or it would have been cool if the taken white pieces would have become additional black pieces, but that would only have complicated the scene even more. I actually like how black still plays "fair". The evil in the school got to this trial and affected it, but it didn't overtake it, which is a more fitting amount of demonic influence at this point in the story. And it gave me an opportunity to give the trial the logic weakness you mentioned that Minea could abuse to win.
About the chess moves, I've tried to make the most of it given the moves that had already been brought to life in pictures. Minea's second move (E2-E4) is just plain stupid with a black pawn on D5, but it was already made because the pixies needed to be taken. The trial (following its aggressive logic we mentioned) would normally have taken the white E pawn with its own pawn on D5 instead of moving the knight...but this simply couldn't be fixed. I used page 114 to turn it into a believable match as much as possible, though I now see that Shinra made a mistake with the second black move on that page: the bishop's move should've been F8 to G7.
And yes, I know I'm taking this chess scene far too seriously. No need for anyone to tell me. ;)

Love the chess scene because it has so much potential: what are the interaction of other pieces? What if the main characters' piece got checked? How about the taken piece would turn against own side?

First of all I have to mention that I received an email from Shinras page. I wish you Shinra things will go good for you. Now, I know it is taking long time to make these series, but watching again the chess scene I would love to see a fourth member of the company to get corrupted by evil King.
