Yes, I'm sure that the introduction of Trixie's boyfriend (who she says is very open, since they HAVE to be, because it's not like people can just ABSTAIN when their significant others are absent for long stretches) is going to feature significant developmental changes.

Anyway, Aron and Beth breaking up made sense: Beth wanted to keep traveling (and thought of Aron as a man-child, see Original Life comic), and Aron was ready to settle down and be his own boss instead of just following Beth everywhere. People grow apart sometimes. It happens. Aron seems happy with Audrey and his other partners right now, and Beth still has her own issues to deal with (not the least of which is her fairly new aloof and cynical attitude). No need to try to smash them back together.

In general: Beth, you're not nearly old enough to be menopausal, and you still like dick. You need a better form of protection than a shrug. GET A NEW IUD.

Well by groing up a bit, I came to the contreversial statement that this even betetr than his art, as long he don't fuck up.

And here's where it becomes clear that Naylor doesn't understand actual polyamory. Rather than give his characters the agency to think and communicate about the difficulties of their relationships, he just writes them so the men are users and the women get off on it. Trixie could be getting upset because her boundaries were crossed, but no, she's upset because sex is a competition of genes, communication and emotional intelligence aren't real, blah blah blah.

The worst part is, I actually really like this concept and the art behind it. It just has the same foundational issue as all of Naylor's other writing.

AndI saw lots of jealousy & convoluted rules that were constantly broken (which is shown in this story). I read some other comments complaining about Jay Naylor not depicting a functional open relationship, but I just think he’s being realistic instead of pandering to people. Someone either ends up breaking up with their main partner for their third (looks like that’s what’s about to happen in this story), one of the main partners “cheats” with a random person neither their main partner or third never had any idea of, or all of the multiple partners involved break up with each other and never speak to each other again. I think it mostly works more as an abstract theoretical concept than it does in real life. Some real life examples are like when one of my friends began sleeping with her third behind her partner’s back & ended up secretly moving in with her third while her main partner was out of town. Or like when two friends opened their relationship & had a nasty breakup b/c the guy wanted to change their one open relationship to a polyamorous one w/ a chick he was screwing while lying to his girlfriend that he had no feelings for her. Or like when a couple I knew decided to try an open relationship and one of them idiotically decided to have sex with a 16 year old. 😐

It's just a shame that none of it made the slightest bit of sense. ALL of these people have virtually no sexual boundaries, but... they all feel betrayed or put off because... reasons?

Oh, and look. Once he's done with Beth, Ty's immediately plowing that yoga chick who wasn't even a part of this story until now. What a compelling introduction to his character...

As a non-monogamous person, I can tell you that there are definitely wholesome ways to do open relationships where the people involved openly communicate, respect boundaries, and consider the feelings of their partner/s. This? This ain't it. It's completely reasonable for Trixie to expect Ty to treat her with respect, especially if she's his primary partner. Instead he just runs around and puts his dick in anyone who looks good, without consideration of their feelings or even wearing protection. From a legal standpoint Ty commited second degree felony, which would put him behind bars up to 8 years and registration as a sex ofender. According to CA law, there is a high chance of him being found guilty, as Beth was unconscious during the act, and it was commited by force. Not ony she never clearly expressed consent, but she even tried to make him stop, which he did not. Given that result of (for now alleged) rape is a pregnancy, a DNA test could be made, which would open a legal way to apply for a child support, if Beth decide not to abort the hell of that fetus. Given that Ty was recognised as utter asshole and in my opinion he should be neck deep in legal shit. Moreover, I strongly belive that Trixie would and should stand by Beth in this case. Eather way, this has a great potential for further development of characters and story.

It's clear that Jay has no idea what to actually do with Beth (weird that she's suddenly over 40 instead of where i'd have assumed the rest of the gang were in their 30s) so this is an incredibly hamfisted way to give her SOME development. Just a goddamn shame it had to be an oopsbaby from cucking with a newly-introduced piece of cardboard (seriously his bio page is the most generic "bad boy" bullshit i've ever read) that immediately noped out outta nowhere with even more pseudo-psychological waffling and waxing poetic about nothing than usual instead of settling down with Aron or some other actual character. Seriously this was a dumb move. The buttfuckin' was hot tho.
