Space Battleship Yamato was the very first anime movie I ever saw as a kid. Back then, the title was mistranslated as Space Cruiser Yamato.

While I enjoyed the story, what I absolutely loved were the designs of the starships shown in the movie, as they looked so different from the spaceships that appeared in Western cartoons and comics.

I watched Yamato's second and third TV series in the early 1980s (strangely the first one was not shown in my country). It was also one of my first anime. ^_^
