This is pretty prescriptive of gender roles even by usual Japanese standards, so it wasn't much of a surprise to see the author's notes say they came up with the idea in elementary school during the 60s. But being that it WAS created by someone who was in the 5-11 range in the 60s, I can't criticize it too much. Heck, it's really nice that they got to see a world where this kind of thing stopped being viewed as horribly as it once was.

Changing chromosome is close to impossible but when they said something about IPS cell then it might be possible to reverse tesricle to Ovarium. This were only done to a mouse not human.
And for obvious reason the pipe or ureter inside thewill have to to be moved as the female ureter is right above the vagina and right above ureter is clitoris. Facial structure is entirely genetic as even male themselves could have feminine face. For rounder structure that entirely depends on hormones and speech.

As for Chromosome changes would require replacing every single of you (organs, bones etc doesn't grow or replace itself) and idk what kind of technology could do that as it is genetic.

That being said, low birth rate would entirely caused by modern problems(such as Japan quality of life). Not because female human getting more extinct.

That was definitely a read... as others pointed out before, the story can't hide its age and how genders were perceived at the time it was written, and I too was a bit appalled by parts of it. Nonetheless...it's a very unique and interesting work and while I disagree with parts of it (and the whole procedure is obviously in the realm of fantasy) it's nonetheless a story that has some worth and place.

The epistolary style of writing here is a real strength when telling a story that takes place over such a long time with such a short page count. I was really immersed in the character's transition, despite the sci-fi elements and outdated gender roles. This reads like a lot of work by transgender people of a certain age, and I really appreciate that it was translated to English.

No, it's because women can't math:

1. Women are the bottleneck of the next generation.
2. A woman who has one kid is effectively committing Zeno's genocide against her own ethnicity/culture. She and her kind would shrink the next generation unless other women take up the slack.
3. The first baby is the most painful. If a woman has only one kid, she went through 90% of all the childbirth pain she would have had if she'd had three.
4. Modern women are interested more in raising one perfect child (cf. helicopter parenting) as a showpiece instead of raising three normal, but comparatively unremarkable, kids.
5. A male serial seducer who impregnates fifty women has done his ethnicity/culture harm. Most of those new single moms will not have marry and have more kids,
6. Whereas a woman who has twelve kids is a heroine.
7. The replacement rate isn't 2.1. It's actually three (or more), unless you want to impose a police state and force gay men to impregnate lesbians.

This is truly a unique doujin. Even with just 30 pages it manages to be wonderfully detailed and methodical in its descriptions of both mind and body being changed.
There's a beautiful intimacy to it. Not just in the intricate thoughts, but also the fact that this is something the author kept bottled up for the good chunk of a CENTURY and has finally put it on paper.

And of course I freaking love casual stories where characters meekly accept [insert fetish here] as some kind of everyday civic duty.
