The proper way to do it was tell her how you feel, that you would like to try dating each other. EVEN IF SHE IS ALREADY HAS A BOYFRIEND you should still tell her how you feel and what you want. Don't hold it in. If she doesn't reciprocate your feelings(anything besides yes means no, don't be in denial) that's when you say "since I have romantic feelings for you I cant be close friends with you"(This is very important). She will be sad/mad but it is what it is. Afterward don't call, don't ask her out, don't accept plans from her to go out, don't spontaneously hang with her. Cut her off. If she complains to you, remind her what you told her, and don't budge. If she changes her mind she will be forced to confess like you confessed to her. If she doesn't well at least you got your answer and know you can move on and look for love elsewhere. Remaining attached to her will hinder that. You cannot have a proper non-romantic friendship if there are one sided romantic feelings involved. Honestly this might not be over between the two of them. Now that he decided he wont be in her life anymore and told her why. She fully understands why(the important part). Its not fair to a girl you care about to just all of the sudden start acting different, that's immature. She needs to understand why. This girl may have a change of heart, you never know. She honestly hasn't been with her boyfriend very long.

The pain is pretty much over. Either she will respect his wishes and leave him alone or she will come to realize that she is in love with him too and cant live without him in her life. That's where they are at. She has just as much of a codependency with him as he does with her. How can you tell? Look how she reacted to getting raped by him the next day. She doesn't want to remove him from her life. Not just her forgiving him, she wants things to stay exactly the same. She loves him as her closest friend. The bond is so strong that she thinks nothing of being alone with him again, which common sense would say is foolish with a guy that already raped you. Her boyfriend doesn't go to that school so the MC doesn't have to see her with the guy. The important part is he shouldn't change his mind about what he said because that was the right thing to do at the end. This is a toxic situation for him to the point it made him mentally unstable and regretfully assaulted her.

The realism & relatability hit home for me, hard. And if there's a sequel in the works it could either make or break this story completely, it would all depend on how she responded to his last words to her at the end. Something tells me though that she let him go at the end because she knows he's right. The tone of this story tells me she's not going to choose him over her new boyfriend, which leaves her only rational choice to be to no longer be involved with each other, as per his wishes.

That's how it goes. I had a couple friends in high school and after graduation, and I was in a similar situation with one of them (without the rape, of course). We constantly hung out and I had serious feelings for her, but never had the courage to tell her about it. And every time we hung out she'd just go on and on about whoever her current boyfriend was at the time (she went through like 3 during the year or so she hung out with us after graduation). Eventually it just came to hurt too much to be around her, so I came clean one day when we were alone not long after she dumped boyfriend #3 and told her about the feelings I had for her. A week later she agreed to go out with me. We dated for a few months and when it became apparent she couldn't look at me as more than a friend we broke it off. In retrospect, it was probably a similar situation to this story- she probably felt like I put her on the spot and it was a choice of dating me or going our separate ways, and she didn't want me to vanish from her life. It especially stung about a year and half later when I got a text from her one Saturday morning telling me she was pregnant with some guy she'd just started dating. We never really spoke to each other again after that.

I actually think the ending was good. He’ll be able to grow up now that he doesn’t have a pseudo-mom/sister stunting his mental and emotional growth. He should’ve at least apologized for the rape before breaking it off though lol, but it’s hentai so w/e.

The worst ending would’ve been if he willingly stayed friend-zoned. Listening to someone you like talk about their boyfriend, or even just being around them knowing they have one, is incredibly bad for your mental health.

@th30ne: Can you elaborate on what I wrote rubbed you the wrong way? When I wrote the contempt/sympathy part, I was describing what I expected to be the most common reaction upon finishing reading. Of course, others might feel differently, but in the end, if you felt something, I’ve done my job.

To your point about replacing the rape with a tantrum or a ghost, those don’t really hold the same weight, do they? If your reaction was to hate the mmc, then which would make you hate him more, him raping the fmc or ghosting her? I agree that Betty has included the rape for smut purposes because they’re an h-mangaka, but it also intensifies the emotions evoked in the reader.

The sex scene is also not particularly sexy in my opinion. She’s crying the whole time and they’re both in a deep pit of despair. It’s portrayed as a despicable act, again, to evoke emotion, not just for smut.

This is my own personal opinion, and others might interpret it differently, but I think contempt of the main character is the point of this story. What makes this story so powerful is that up until he rapes her, it’s very relatable for a lot of people. Then he commits a heinous act that only worsens his situation. The story is about how a situation familiar to a lot of people can be handled in the worst possible way. What makes the MC worthy of the contempt of the reader is that he could be any of us until he makes the ultimate bad decision. This story serves as a reminder to never sink as low as the MC.

Yeah not sympathy just pointing out. They cant be friends anymore period. Its either lovers or nothing at this point. Her reacting like she did to getting raped by him, choosing to be alone with him and pretending nothing happened until he brought it up shows you she has a warped view of their relationship as well. Only when he told her she was hurting him(like his mother hurt him) did she relent. In an alternate world I would have liked to see how she would have reacted if he got a girlfriend at that school while she was single and no longer could be so close to her because his girlfriend would be jealous.

I dont think that girl was very upfront when she hid her relationship for a month as i believe she probably didnt want to ruin their friendship too. the problem is she keeps vehemently denying the guy for so long and when she does reveal the truth that she doesnt even mind bragging to him about it. Also I just realize it at this point something very important about the story is that as you can see on page 11 as she was talking to her boyfriend that she said its been so long, but wtf they only met less than a month and they haven't talked for a while already? She also changed much to fit his taste and already put out in less than a month, which means she's quite an easy girl and the bf is most likely a womanizer. Id say the MC made the damn good decision to end things and move on rather than to remain friends knowing what he did to her and what torture it will be for him hearing all about her bf

@mister wolf: No need for an alternate world. I want a sequel where the MC moves on and finds a girl who loves him and he's in a relationship with , so I'm curious how his childhood friend would react.

Also the girl didn't give him a chance when she hid the fact that she's got bf in less than a month, thus shocking the MC, but if she first told him that she was interested in some guy who saved her etc that I would see the MC in desperation would probably confess and try to get her attention first before she hooked with him.

I think its that she had been talking to the guy prior but they've been an official couple for a month. The fact that she hasn't talked to him in a while stands out to me. Getting one ear pierced is not uncommon for male college students in Japan. It doesn't signify delinquency or 'yankee' behaviour like it would in High School. Japanese High Schools are extremely conservative culturally and rigidly enforce guidelines, especially for appearance. Which is much less of the case in College and University, where a lot of people branch out and try new things. Not sure what you meant by it standing out or anything like that, but I figured I'd mention since you said you didn't know Japanese youth culture too much. I'm not disregarding your (or anyone elses) views on things, but we have so little to go on with the personality of the college boyfriend. Narratively, it feels more like a piece to move the story along rather than saying anything specifically about the boyfriend. Personally I reserve my judgment less for the boyfriend who likely doesn't know shit about her high school lifestyle or anything and more for the characters involved.

Sadly under Japanese law this won't be a "true rape", sure it IS rape, but it would be near impossible to prove that in the court under the japanese law system. Unless the woman is completely "incapable of resistance" and violence and intimidation are proved the court would throw out the case, leaving her with the stigma of not only being raped by someone she considered a friend, but society would look at her differently and her social life would be harsh unless she moved to a far away place.
As a guy it's hard for me to not sympathize with Yuuto for his feelings, still he raped her and that's extremely fucked up.
This chapter is depressing in every way since both of the characters are left suffering in the end.

Since the author is somewhat upset that pretty much everyone asking for a sequel read it here (or some other site posting the scanlation) and thus did not 'pay for it', then why not literally put them up to it financially?

Author says they're taking requests, then let's commission the sequel. Pay them for it. I'd do it myself, honestly, although I'm not sure I can afford paying for the creation of an entire multi-page work. I'm sure all the folks who want it can band together and chip in a little bit for it, though.

Although my idea of a sequel might not be what a lot of people may like. I'm thinking more of a continuation of the tragedy, where the girl eventually has a falling out with her boyfriend, tries to look for solace with her 'best friend' and sleeps with him and tries to reaffirm their 'relationship' (as he apparently 'wanted' it when he raped her), but the guy realizes that his guilt upon raping her in the first place cannot be dispelled, and so cannot bring himself to enter into a relationship with the person he desperately wanted to be with. Keeps with the original tone of the work, while delivering a second tragedy: not only can things return to the way they were, but also, you should've recognized what you already had and put more value into it while you still had it.
