Reading the afterword, it seems that the author got 'tons' of complaints. I don't think that the author was aware that the tomboy childhood friend crowd don't really jive all that well with the NTR crowd.
As for me, I'm just happy that we got better art in this than what was in the NTR comics. It could have easily been the other way around.

The Vanilla is strong with this one and I love it. A simple and sweet story about a second chance at true love and realizing one's true feelings for someone they only saw a close friend. Also, I kinda wanted Taichi's Dad and Natsuki's Mom to hook up in the end

About author's comment about possible Natsuki's mom route and Natsuki's daughter Himeko route, here's my take :

* Mother route : probably starts after MC discovers his dad and Natsuki's relationship. He gets depressed and Natsuki's mom finds him like and takes pity. She helps him out and slowly fall in love and they get into relationship. Later it's Natsuki's turn to find about her "little brother" porking her mother and is weirded about it. Stuff happen, Natsuki confronts MC, both get angry, MC confesses he had feelings for her, they get into hate/weird sex, and both decide that it's "too late" and both go back to their current partner. They never speak of this again and live happily with their partner, each one making a family of their own.

* Natsuki's daughter route : It's gonna be basically what MC's father done to Natsuki. Basically MC groom the girl to be his sex girlfriend, as some Natsuki clone he never got to experience. Later, they got careless and Natsuki finds out while her daughter is still underage. Natsuki doesn't take it well and banned MC from approaching her family ever again. Himeko as stubborn as her mother and seeks out MC. MC pussies out but Himeko is having none of it and blackmails him into continuing the relationship. MC understands he screwed up the girl's life and sort of "takes responsibility" promises Himeko to become his wife once she's grown up. Epilogue will be Himeko realizing MC used her as stand in for Natsuki and she leaves him. MC accepts it and move on with his life full of regrets. Much darker than previous works but considering the situation, I hardly see a good end in this route.
