thoughts on upload: couldn't find raws without that weird grey tinge, am willing to redo later if better ones are found
cum sandwhich.
weird reason for a nuclear winter, huh?
and i'm pretty sure birds aren't supposed to take baths.
EDIT: touched up with curves on the recommendation of a friend, will look into using levels later once i can afford to take the time to figure it out. added quotation marks where appropriate.
You find a leveling tutorial here: http://www.ruinevil.com/rawr/editguide/1.html#3
This technique can also be used to do some simple color corections on washed out and greyish cover images and make the colors more bright. For the cover I recommend set black to 66 Gamma (the slider between black and white spot) to 1.8 and leave white at 255.

i do have a version of this that i'm touching up to make the overall saturation levels feel a little bit more balanced (though i'm still troubled by how grainy it seems at times), but i feel guilty about rapid-fire uploading these over and over again, so i'll probably finish it up today, sleep on it, then decide whether i should put it out or not tomorrow after a final check. -_-"
Curves is also good, I actually prefer them over levels because they afford more control on the end result. Their only drawback (depending on the program/version you're using) is that they cannot be applied in a non-destructive way as an adjustment layer, whereas levels can. At least that's true until Photoshop CS6, then after Adobe went all cloudy I switched to another editing program.
I love how this author makes his stories: both the scenes and the dialogue are really smooth and don't feel forced. I really like the last part with both Koishi and Satori too.
