That's actually one of the reasons for Japan's low birth rate. Many Japanese women don't want to get married early on because they don't want to sacrifice their careers -- which is perfectly understandable. Unfortunately once they reach their late 20s or early 30s, they attain the stigma of being "Christmas cakes" and are considered less marriageable (that is, not being able to bear children and raise a family).

To add to @meow_pao's comment - It's also a relatively new thing for women to be able to work their way up the ladder in Japan so its becoming more for ladies to get into their 30's before wanting a family. What i don't understand is why they become less appealing for marriage, sure a 30 year old doesn't look as young as a 20 year old but the difference is pretty minor on most and Women can have healthy children into their 40's, whilst the big 4-0 is the age most aim to have one by because on average chances of issues start to creep in but that's plenty of time to meet and marry.
Though it is true many who aren't married by 30 or them who are but haven't got kids just chose to work. Which i can understand, if your going to be seen as "2nd rate" you might as well earn big for later in life.

All the same, i enjoyed this read, i liked it wasn't some dark or cringe content, pretty wholesome. Glad it worked out.

what you have to remember about any given culture is that it will invariably have a number of things that make absolutely no sense in the modern world, especially in the last 40ish years when the progression of society has rocketed ahead drastically faster than ever before in history. This applies to your culture as well as it does any other ones'. Those traditions exist for a reason - it's just that society hasn't moved past them now that the reason no longer exists.

Tradition and cultural concepts have a basis in biology.

As women get older, their fertility declines. In addition, the older they are, the more complications arise from pregnancy. Granted, medicine has advanced a whole lot the past 100 years and it's not a likely death sentence should complications arise now as it would have been back then, but complications aren't to be taken lightly either.

There's another age factor to consider: if you have kids in your 30s or 40s, you'll be well into middle age and heading towards senior citizenship by the time they're old enough to start making their own way in the world. That's a daunting prospect.

No. If you're talking about risks to the baby, your statement is absolutely incorrect.

If a brother and sister have a child, the chance of their baby suffering an early death, having birth defects, or mental deficiencies is close to 50%. A woman giving birth after the age of 40 would have a much smaller chance of something similar happening. For example, a woman giving birth at the age of 45 would have only a 5% chance of having a baby with Down's syndrome -- one of the most-feared risks of late-age pregnancies.

If you're talking about the risks to the health of the mother on the other hand, then yes, older women would have a higher risk of getting complications as a result of their pregnancy.

I think it makes perfect sense. I'm a 21yo dude, when I'm 28 and I'm looking for marriage... I'll pick a 22yo girl, not a 30yo girl. It's literally that simple. A 6 year gap between the man and the woman's age is normal where I live. I find 22yo girls extremely attractive, and I don't find 30yo girls very attractive. I think this is true for every single guy that is honest with himself about what he finds attractive.

A career does not make a woman attractive, and being old actively makes a woman unattractive - not just because of her physical appearance, but also because older women lose feminine personality traits. They become more bitter, resentful, and pushy. Most men also find women with a low partner count to be far more attractive, so that's another strike to an older woman unless she was celibate sitting in her room for a decade... which is not exactly super likely.

If she was an 8 when she was 24, then when she's 32 she's maybe a 6.5. But many women are at risk of thinking they're actually an 8.5 because they have more money and more experience. But these things are either meaningless or actively unattractive to most men.

So this is why older women love to go with the "where have the good men gone?" complaint. The good men haven't gone anywhere, the issue is that the women are trying to date way out of their league and they should've married "the good man" a decade ago instead of trying to play the field looking for greener grass.

Most women know this in conservative societies, so they make sure to marry young since that's where they're most advantaged and most able to lock down the most attractive man. But it's not politically correct to talk about it in western societies, so people don't know and they're left blindsided at 30.
