Orchid Seed dispenses with pretension when it comes to understanding their niche in the figure industry: they make ero figures, and good ones at that. The Hustler girl, sculpted in a solid 1/7 scale, is the latest in Orchid Seed’s burgeoning lineup, and there is a lot to like about her.
Removing her from her packaging was a bit of an adventure, as the billiards ball popped out of the plastic tray unnoticed. I spent near half an hour searching for it, as I would have looked quite the fool if I rushed out this review and didn’t include the ball. So a word of caution to anyone who buys this figure: be careful when opening the box.
Happoubi Jin Sweet Body Hustler Picture
To the best of my knowledge, the Hustler comes from an illustration drawn by Happoubi Jin for his artbook Sweet Body. Orchid Seed has taken a few liberties with the design, mostly for the better: her skull isn’t quite so elongated, her eyes are a bit bigger, and the ball she is holding has been made into a more realistic size.
Her base is a corner of a billiards table, which she freely perches upon. Her only support is the pool cue itself, which attaches to a small notch cut in the table.
Her paintjob is excellent – a bit low-key, but superb nonetheless. I especially like her face; she can pass as either smoking hot or simply cute if one disregards her pendulous breasts, which admittedly are difficult to ignore.
Her sculpt is also very good, particularly if one is inclined to liking her sort of body build. Now, there is one sculpting flaw that is either very conspicuous or irrelevant, and I’ll talk more about it in a bit.
The billiards ball is not attached to her hand, so care must be taken not to jar or bump the Hustler. I’m guessing I’ll accidentally knock her over and lose the ball inside of two months.
Happoubi Jin’s art makes for a good figure by itself, but Orchid Seed has gone the extra step and thoughtfully provided for cast-off clothing. The Hustler’s arms separate from her torso, and her torso separates from the waistband of her panties.
And that’s where the aforementioned sculpting issue comes in; on my figure her torso doesn’t quite perfectly line up with her lower body, so there are very visible gaps right above her underwear. Obviously this won’t be a problem for people who choose not to display her in her half-naked glory, but for those that do, it might be worthwhile to use a hair dryer for a few seconds to heat up the plastic edges and bend them a bit to minimize the gaps.
Other than that, the Hustler girl looks great. Fantastic, even. She is definitely worth the money and now I need to decide in what comprehensiveness of attire I am going to display her in.
