When uploading black and white text pages, PNG can save a great deal on filesize as compared to JPG. For example, the text page at #322 is a JPG with dimensions 2479 x 3504 and a filesize of 1.16 MB. Saving it as lossless PNG reduces the filesize to 457 KB which is approx 40% of the original filesize. As for how to conveniently save them as PNG, you can use the freeware Irfanview which has a built-in batch file converter/renamer.

JPG was designed to be lossy, so when PNG fetishists compare, they either dishonestly compare PNG to lossless JPG for file size, or they dishonestly claim lossy .JPG is full of artifacts, which is only true if you're using a microscope and just looking for problems to complain about, or you dishonestly turned up the loss ratio to something stupid high.

A person who actually pays attention when compressing can get better results with JPG. There is no free lunch in information technology, PNG doesn't do magic to make less information in the source: It's merely better optimized for lossless.

Rant over: You can go back to your lazy thinking now.

Speaking about lazy thinking.... Check whats being compressed! You rant would have made much more sense for full color images. For most the greyscale pages of TEXT, what @Anime Janai said is just objectively and undisputable truth. That PNG fetishism didn't make one ounce of sense either.

Hmmm, the ending of the third story "Sisters Who Became a Chair" is very confusing. I wonder it is caused by translation or it is also like that in the original text.
Especially with the conversation said by Anna "Well, I'll take care of the maintenance, once you've used the chair, you can't take it outside, but you can rent it for your home. If you work for me, I'll at least pay you."
What maintenance? What chair? Are the sisters (or the elder sister) still going to serve as human furniture for Anna or something? It doesn't have any context, which makes the whole ending confusing...

But anyway, I am really grateful for the translation!

Yeah I agonized over what exactly she was trying to say there for a while, potentially the most confusing line in the entire book actually. I stuck to staying as close to a direct translation as possible but I think she's saying that the chair (possibly including the sisters as components in that statement) can't be removed from her home, probably on pain of the sellers retaliating for risking exposing their obviously illegal business. That she wants the sisters to work for her until they repay her for the cost of the chair (unclear if this means putting them back in the chair or not). And the "maintenance cost" may refer to the cost of taking them in or out of the chair, keeping them safe while inside the chair (assuming she means to put them back inside), or just a fee associated with buying them in the first place. So yeah, lots of confusion and potential meanings to wade through there.

Anna was saying she would keep the sisters maintained. If they perform well as a chair, although she can't free them (I assume because the suits cannot be removed), she will let her house employ them and pay them a wage. When questioned whether the terms are too generous, Anna replied that the employment part of the deal won't happen any time soon, and the sisters have to be patient and satisfy her first.
