It was just such a shame no one was translating this artist, so I had to fix that with my "for fun" money. Spent basically all of that on the last two commissions.

Darg777, I like your work (including what you've done for VNs), and I know how much of a pain in the ass transparent bubbles are in colored mangas/doujins, but please consider redrawing the backgrounds. Slapping white textboxes everywhere is a plague of laziness unfortunately affecting almost every colored translation I'm coming across.

Call me lazy all you want, but for me these things are balancing act. Redrawing backgrounds can be pretty time consuming (at least with my skills), and to justify the extra time I'd have to spend I would need to pass that cost onto the commissioner. I don't like doing that.

In my mind sacrificing semi-transparent bubbles so that the commissioner doesn't burn a hole in their wallet is better than an unhappy customer and an untranslated work.
(For the record, I did make it clear on this commission that I would be filling in the bubbles, and the commissioner was okay with that.)

You may disagree, and that's fine. Just because we're dealing with porn here doesn't mean you can't expect a certain degree of quality.
I fully recognize that other more skilled scanlators (such as yourself) may be able to create what you want without having to charge too much. I envy that.
Were I as skilled and had more free time I'd do the same. I hope someday I'll be able to get there.

As it stands though, I do the best within my means. And for something that started as and still is a hobby, I think I put out decent enough work that I can be proud of.

Yeah, I completely understand the trade-off, and sympathize with it. In a perfect world, everyone would autistically blow tens of hours redrawing all that shit... which isn't always realistic.

As a side note, the laziness comment wasn't aimed at you lol. I know you'll improve. You're a great translator and clearly care. That was mostly aimed at the flock of "translators" looking to make a quick buck out of people who don't know any better.
