i made that same point when this comic was first made but the "joke" is that Steven is not a great character and as the show has pointed out on one or two occasions Steven usually just gets what he wants regardless of whether or not he earned it as the story just goes his way causing him to only have problems that are really non-issues.

because SU:F basically takes this emotionally stunted kid and basically makes the world indirectly shit on him the comic basically takes the same approach to his relationship with Connie. The show points out in a very early episode with the same concept coming back in the later half of the show that Stevens physical age is very much tied to his psychological/emotional age or how he perceives himself hence why for a few years up to his age in the show proper he didn't really change as he was mentally younger then he actually was show just how stunted his growth actually was.

all this preamble to basically say yes, Steven has all the power to un-cuck himself but he is so inept that he cant even muster the thought and the fact that 4 years pass and he stops changing again shows just how much he's trapped himself in this emotional hellscape of his own making

That's an issue I had with the show, there was so little character progression from Steven. And whenever there was room for real character growth, he instead just unlocked some new power at just the right moment to save him and whoever is with him. And he didn't learn his lesson at all.

Than I started paying attention to the creators social media's, and they were saying crazy stuff like "When two gems fuse together, it's like sex" and "Gems can only fuse together when both consent to it"; but than you had the entire forced fusion of Lapis (who is my favorite character in the entire show) and Jasper which completely goes against what they were saying... and the fact that they are saying fusion is like sex, on a show marketed to kids...

That, and half the time the show doesn't really make much sense, stopped watching after Steven returned from the Gem's world and left pink Lars there with outcasts.
