@Masterfrog

Are you implying that Pokemon aren't sexy? Did you know that Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokemon...?

Talk about a nostalgia trip. Pokemon Blue was actually my first game in the series I played.

The first generation of Pokemon was so catastrophically buggy, barebones, and ugly, it's a wonder the franchise ever got off the ground, and I played Yellow, the allegedly superior version after they ironed some of the issues out and added more content. It wasn't until the second generation that they actually felt like finished games that functioned correctly, and even then, content was sparse.

Gen 3 came out and people complained that it was missing content. Gen 4 had those stupid swamp and snow routes where you would slow down or get stuck. Gen 5 had the sprites people hated, and gen 6 was ugly and way too easy. While I haven't touched gens 7 or 8 yet, and gen 7 actually looks fun, has great 'mon designs, and brings back the tropical vibes that I loved in gen 3, there's no escaping how infamous gen 8 was.

Gens 3 and 5 were the only ones I loved through and through, but for some reason those are the ones people seem to hate the most (gen 2 gets honorable mention, Gold was my first Pokemon game, but replaying it, I can see that you really do breeze through locations so even though it's twice the area, it's also half the content, so it's one step forward, one step back). I don't get it. The only thing that seems to be consistently good through every generation is that they all have great music.

I don't know about you guys, but I could really go for a reboot that rips out a lot of the grind and is more fast-paced and challenging for a change. More focus on meaningful content and less focus on gimmicks that only last one generation would also be appreciated. Also, how about going back to quality 'mon designs? I don't know what happened to pokemon designs, but gen 8 set a new low for the series, and after gen 7 looked so good, too. How do you go from golisopod to eiscue in one gen?

Before the internet, when everything you wanted to know about a Pokémon game was at your fingertips, and before everyone knew so much about pokemon that a lot of it was just repetition, and even before strategy guides were commonly available, going into a whole new world and just figuring out what to do and how many ways you could do it.

Oh the nostalgia

Oh, interesting. I was told that gen 1 had a glitch where ghost type attacks had no effect on psychic types when they were supposed to be super effective, but the type chart on page 18 (33) suggests this was actually intentional.
