I highly suggest learning the basics of typesetting if you do plan to continue scanlating in the future, as there's plenty of tools, guides and self-help groups out there that can facilitate that. (The Scan-School Discord group for example.)
I won't go too much into detail on where you went wrong, but you should first study up on font usage, appropriate spacing/leading and text centering for the typesetting.
For the translation mainly just tenses/perspective. I get that Japanese is very contextual, but to properly capture the narrative you should actively spend time considering each line that may appear vague.
If you don't particularly like doing either, you could try applying to or making a group of your own with like-minded people who like doing doujins, there's certainly an open market for people who enjoy scanning for free, whether it's pornographic or not.
You don't need to be amazing to scanlate (case and point, me), but it'll certainly help your credibility going forward if you get the basics down.
