In all seriousness, though, I'm just doing this using paint.net, Google Translate and DeepL. I'm using a few other resources if I need them, especially for the onomatopoeia, so it's taking a lot of time. But still, if I can do it, so can anybody else.

If you want to translate something, learn how to do some basic editing and then just handwrite the characters into Google Translate, copy them into DeepL, then use Jisho or something if there's anything weird going on, then use your brain to fill in the gaps! It only takes hours!

Anyways, I'll be translating the rest, then uploading the entire thing, but enjoy what I have for now. (Why did I stop right before the good part!?)

Dunno what your setup is but to save you handwriting every character. If you use Google Translate on your phone you can take a picture of the text and copy the characters off of there into DeepL. It doesn't get all of them and struggles with some of the more complex Kanji. Hope it helps and saves you some time.

if you want to translate something, learn the source language first. especially if it's from japanese.
and if you want to translate to another language you aren't proficient of, learn the target language as well.
mtl may very well be the future of quick translating, but for japanese to english it's still very far away from being good enough.

I'm gonna have to mostly agree with you. It's extremely difficult to translate from Japanese because of all the nuances of the language.

However, this comic was translated poorly in the past, and nobody else was willing to rewrite it in a cohesive manner, so I thought that I would give it a shot.

I mean, yeah, it's not as good as if I was a native speaker, or if I even knew some of the basics of the language, but I believe what I've done is still pretty damned good and at least grammatically correct. I wish I knew Japanese, but I don't know if it's really something that I want to be pursuing as a goal in my life, as I have other projects to be pushing for. So, while yes, you really _should_ know the language, it's simply not required anymore to make a competent translation that has stays in the spirit of the messages the author was trying to say.

I was coming here to wonder why in the world someone is starting this over again when so many of this guy's based works go untranslated, especially the last 2 chapters of this.

@MistaLOD i REALLY REALLY hope you stick with this and don't start it and dip like the (at least) last 2 people who started this and one who sounded like he was in it for the long haul and still dropped it.

Kawahagitei's works took a recent left turn for the worst (short, semi-bestiality and weirdly pokemon obsessed, newer and worse cum animation, and most importantly: no stories), but this is one of his last great ones.

I was one of those who attempted to translate a chapter of this using the same translation and rewrite method you are using. It really is tedious work and I had multiple scripts and tricks to speed things along so I wish you luck OP.

I might have continued myself but certain comments and private messages just kinda killed any passion I had in touching other various versions of it I had, or doing more chapters, or doing any other manga at all after so many hours on it, which is a shame, as I am still the only person to have ever de-censored kawahagitei's work as far as I know.

I'll just say try not to let the negativity get you down like it did me OP, and to the community: If you poo poo everyone willing to do anything on kawahagitei's work, like you are already doing here, you are never going to cultivate a thriving community willing to work on kawahagitei's huge number of works. This guy could be a fantastic typesetter for a real translator if one eventually turns up with not enough time to typeset but enough time to translate, but he can't be that if you have chased him away already. What he is doing in the meantime is well appreciated by the majority of people even if it doesnt reach your standards.

Dude. I do this translation all the time too!

The Google Translate (GT) to DeepL (DL) pipeline is pretty decent, I've only had a couple times where I have had to truly agonize over the meaning of the word (although subtext is often lost).

I do, however, agree that learning some of the language is important, so I'm currently working on learning kanji. GT has a built in feature to type out hirigana and katakana and if you know what sounds one of the kanji makes you can press the down directional key to convert it appropriately. It works about 98% of the time if you have a long sequence. This significantly improves my time.

I'm working on some translations of Kawahagitei's work, specifically "Futanari Kafunshou Natsu - Haha naru Umi de Haha to Naru -" and I've gotten about halfway through.

Some people look down on machine translation, but it can be quite useful. Just needs a bit of extra effort and care, not just splashing some text in a machine then copying and pasting.

@dynellen I'm gonna be real here, MistaLOD's first chapter reads much more fluidly than your translated first chapter which is quite wooden and hard to read in comparison, it is also better typeset and includes the onomatopoeia which yours seems to lack. I genuinely prefer it.

Lastly, this stuff: "epic waste of time" "this somehow makes you feel better?", what horrible things to say to someone new and working entirely for free for the community doing typesetting and onomatopoeia and readability that hasn't been done before.

i wouldn't call it a "waste of time". Even if the first four chapters already have a translation, this one is fsr superior. Looking at the old release you can tell with a lot of ease it was also machine translated, and the editing is also far less clean than this one.

Also MistaLOD is also making a point that you can machineTL and also provide at least some semblance of quality by cleaning up the dialogue and putting effort in the editing, sentiment which I respect a lot.

@SuroSudiro Some people seem to have an over the top amount of hatred for nicely rewritten MTL so I wouldn't blame MistaLOD if he stopped translating. He is new to this and probably didn't expect the discouraging reactions here and elsewhere for what is a lot of work. Suuuuuper sucks for those of us who don't care if it's not perfectly accurate as long as it has good english to fap to.

The endless number of untranslated kawahagitei mangas archived on this site will remain permanently untranslated as long as there are people being toxic and discouraging new translators. 100%.

How you guys translate the ballons? I know Yandex got some translator for this that can identify the text in images, through it isn't relieable.
You guys check the meaning from each kanji in separate or there's a way to copy what is said to text before starting to translate?

@Dynellen It's not a waste of epic time as you said. I just read and compared the first 10 pages of both yours and his, and I deemed his' are better in terms of fluidity. As a few people already pointed out, his version is much more fluid in terms of reading it. Yours feels too stiff and rigid? Like I can feel it even in the first few 3-4 pages
