This is so deep that it barely qualifies as porn.

Yo, for real, that teacher was extremely shitty towards her student.

Yes, they were basically telling him that they "disliked him being from a poor household with a problematic family" and thought that "since he effectivley is living like human scum he should just stay down and live like that for the rest of his live as well" just as they were admitting in the same sentence that he was/is qualified since he already was recommended.

It's a different culture. Contributing to your family and to society in general — or at least not being a drain on those — is considered to be at least as important as individual achievement. So within the norms of that culture, neither the teacher's remarks (i.e., "get a job, support your mother") nor the son's thoughts (i.e., "is it wrong that I want an easy life, or to run away, or to just die?") were unusual.

Frankly, within the norms of that culture, the son *is* the villain of the piece. Ruining the teacher's relationship like that, just because she gave the recommendation to another student who (let's be honest) probably would have done more with it, is not something a good person would do.

Then why give the recommendation in the first place? Why tell the student, who they know needs to support a parent, that they are a drain on society for wanting to do better to support themselves, and to get a job that probably will not be enough to support two adults (I'm not an expert on Japanese economics, but I imagine that some college education can get a higher paying job, and therefore continue more in tax revenue)?

The "cultural norms" argument only goes so far when it makes since within the context of the cultural norms. For example the saving face aspect, withdrawing the recommendation only on the basis of receiving welfare, makes the teacher look like she has bad judgement in giving it in the first place, and not even trying to justify it with something within his academic standing (i.e. "Your grades are terrible, you are an unmotivated student, maybe you would be better off just getting into the workforce now.") or actions that affected the school (i.e. "You got into three fights last week, and got arrested.").

The only "villanous" act outside the act of revenge is that he was sick of dealing with his life and thought, "hey if I was a woman, I could get the hell out of here, maybe I should kill myself."

TLDR: Teacher still acted like a bitch, even within the context of society. Having private thoughts about hating your situation, while actively trying to fix it, or having suicidal thoughts is not wrong or "villanous."

Not really a fan of her just leaving her apparently sick mother but in all fairness if the fiance was paying to have sex with high school girls and not using protection it really was only a matter of time till that came out one way or another and it'd probably be a lot worse if it was after marriage. I mean imagine your her walking down the aisle on your wedding day and when the priest say's "If anyone objects speak now or forever hold your peace" a 16 year old girl with a baby stands up and says he's the father.

I can tell you from experience that when you're at that age abandoning your parents isn't a decision you make lightly. Some people are beyond help and if it gets to the point where you're suicidal then going out on your own might be for the best.
