What I don't understand is, it isn't THAT different. Why was this needed? His art style hasn't changed that much over the years except maybe less body hair and smegma. He should have put the time elsewhere like making new pages.

I prefer the dialogue in the old version on the last page (page 8 in this gallery). In the original, Anne clearly hears the blonde guy basically admit he has a crush on her, hence her "..." after he struggles to answer the glasses guy; that scene makes this comic a BSS story, and Anne being aware of his feelings adds to the vibe that she's been stolen away.
