You switched to PNG, but the files are saved as RGB despite being black & white. You should convert to either greyscale or indexed mode to further reduce the filesize.

The sample I checked (0_007) only went from 900kb to 600kb; they're literally black&white so they compress very well regardless, but 33% smaller is still a good improvement. And others might shrink even further.
