Pegasus' half-assed knowledge of Marvel and DC characters shines again. Mandrill refers to himself as a "monkey" and as Black. He's neither (although actual mandrills are monkeys). Mandrill is a mutant born to two Caucasian parents, who rejected him because of his mutation (he was born looking like a cross between a human and a mandrill, although his main mutant power (pheromones that make people (especially people attracted to males by orientation) highly suggestible, not actual full mind control) didn't develop until his late teens. So unless Mandrill is falsely claiming to be Black to undermine Shanna's certainty about his villain status (which makes no sense since she knows he's guilty of causing multiple deaths as well as many, many rapes (by essentially drugging women to circumvent informed consent), then we have to assume Pegasus doesn't know Mandrill is actually Caucasian.

It's a whole thread of his early and ongoing team-ups with Nekra. Nekra is African-American but her mutation gave her chalk-white skin and pitch black eyes (she's not a true albino, as her hair and irises are black vs translucent/white in actual albinos who have no pigment in either hair, skin, or the corneas of the eyes). She's immune to Mandrill's powers because her mutation makes her stronger the more rage, hate, bloodlust, or other violent emotions she experiences and Mandrill knows if he ever tried to influence her, they wouldn't find anything identifiable after she tore him to shreds. In face, most of the basis of their friendship and partnership is the fact that she's immune to his power.

There's no reference to Mandrill's bodily fluids being narcotic or addictive, but to be fair, there wouldn't be since Marvel doesn't do x-rated comics. So it's passable as a porn conceit, rather than just not knowing a damned thing about the character.

The one part that Pegasus does seem to get right is Mandrill's utter misogyny. But it's hard to be sure because basically all of his male protagonists are horrible misogynists, so it might just be the "a stopped clock is right twice a day" phenomenon.

Or he might have stolen the idea from me, since I commented on one of his "Submission Agenda" comics that it was weird to use what seemed like a Marty Stu self-insert generic teen mutant when Marvel already had a mutant with pheromone powers, namely Mandrill.
