They start nice with self contained stories then try to "be more mature" or "tell a more complex story" then they just keep going and going and going for years because they make like one/two pages a month. I agree that short and sweet or self-contained is much easier to write for porn stuff (and often much more satisfying to read.) I 100% think that Incase's short porn comics are excellent reads!
Doujins also have an editor (if they're done by a publisher) and editors really help - there's someone to direct and advise. A lot of comics (non-porno obviously) from places like Image also ramble (once they get enough of a fan base to stay in print) cos there's limited editorial oversight for the creators.
