Hey, he had to chose between the Freedom and his "friend". Who turned out to be a dirty flower-power pinkie turncoat, mind you. It was a painful experience, for sure - but the sting of betrayal is what left PTSD, not the shot; the shot itself was rather cathartic, I'd say, after all - like lancing a boil: it may be painful, but if you treat it right, you'll be better in the end.
