They don't typically do "what if" NTR versions because it shows how fake and easily broken the love is in the vanilla version, which entirely taints it by showing how weak it really is. Like that Rider doujinshi series that was popular ages ago until it created a What if NTR route which kinda sunk the popularity. You can't really spend four or five books showing how sweet and vanilla something is, and then just instantly show how instantly they would cheat on the other, and then go back to the vanilla afterwards, you already showed it was hollow. Its hard to pull off at least. I mean I get the appeal of what if stories like that but that's typically why it doesn't work I mean. You can't taint NTR with vanilla because its like adding water to mud, its still mud either way, but a drop of NTR will always taint vanilla, a drop of food coloring will entirely color a glass of water no matter how pure it was before.

Depending on how it's handled it might be successful or a total disaster like it happened with:
- Haitoku sensei's vanilla incest series https://e-hentai.org/g/2097012/30df7fd93d/ getting a massive backslash for adding a netorare plot on one of its chapters, the interesting part was that the author here hid the netorare plot on his reviews and samples and denied it having NTR until days before it's release so he shave known what was coming to him yet acted surprised his own followers roasted the shit out of him.

I don't really agree with that, NTR is a deconstructive, critical force that can pull apart poorly constructed vanilla romances of weak characters, but NTR itself is full of the same issues, and can often expose its own poor construction in the process. After all, the number one complaint with most NTR is that characters are just "really stupid" and don't act rationally or even interestingly, that outcomes are forgone conclusions. What fun is it stealing a woman with one braincell who seems to abandon her old lover with one whiff of the big dick?

If anything, vanilla and NTR feed upon one another. That's why you so often see love triangles or temptation subplots in romance manga, because creating that angle of tension, of betrayal, makes the romance more interesting. The more beautiful and enduring a vanilla love is, the more satisfying it is to watch NTR destroy it. And the more obstacles and threats a relationship survives, the more tender and aww-inducing it is.

A great example was this little RPGmaker H-game I played lately. In it, you play a guy who falls in love with and plans to confess to a Tomoko type Otaku girl. But then some sexy gyaru decide to bully you by trying to seduce you and fuck up your relationship. The Otaku girl is genuinely cute, likable, empathetic, and there's a romance there that players enjoy. That's what makes betraying her more heart wrenching, what gives the cheating and NTR scenes their spice. Whether it's Netori or Netorare, the betrayal and destruction of the original love can only be meaningful, and therefore sadistic/masochistic, if it was meaningful to begin with.

While I don't like NTR either, completely dismissing idea of romantic tension and potential betrayal is not right. There's a place for that in works and its all about how well written the characters are for such a concept to work. It doesn't have to result in NTR and more often than not doesn't.

I didn't read or watch Twilight but one of the strongest reasons for me to consider doing so is an analysis someone did of Edward and Bella's relationship (main male and female lead):
"Edward is passionately in love with her, but is steadfastly committed to protecting her from the dangers around her, including the danger that he himself poses." Edward being a vampire is constantly tempted to suck human blood, particularly of the girl he's fallen for but proves his love by not succumbing to his desires.
This is the tension and potential betrayal being taken to the supernatural element.

Now that said, I do sympathize because I'm not a fan of the ntr spinoffs that romcom doujins tend to get. It's why I avoid works with characters established in other mediums. More often than not, the doujin author screws up my perception of how a character would behave or act just to get the NTR plot to land. Hell, it doesn't have to be NTR, sometimes, I just can't get over how different the author portrays a character compared to the work they originated from.

Finally, more on the contents of this doujin: Because I hadn't read the vanilla version, I can enjoy this version how I tend to enjoy NTR works, by focusing only on the artwork. If I had read the original vanilla doujin, once I saw this "what if" version, I would have left the gallery outright. I'm not here to see characters I know behave erratically just to satisfy an NTR plot.
