@rockball, The guy from the 3rd chapter (the hobo dude) also did the "possession" right. You gotta take the soul out of the host's body first and then initiate the overlap of your own soul with theirs while both of you are outside of any bodies. I put possession in quotations since even if you use the medicine correctly (like the protags in CH1 and CH3) your current personality still won't be quite the same, rather it will be a fusion between two souls. That being said, as long as you dominate the host's soul, then you will become the new default consciousness/soul of the body, but retain the memories/knowledge of the two souls.

The protag here is in a similar boat as the one from Ch 2, but they downgraded to someone dumber so not quite as good. So in order from best outcome to worst IMO...

CH3 protag (not only did he use the medicine right, but he also added DECADES to his lifespan since he looked like he was anywhere from 35-50 years old)

CH1 protag (Used medicine right and got a better body and personality, but didn't gain any real potential lifespan)

CH2 protag (Flubbed on the medicine usage, old personality is not the default, but at least the new body is a practical upgrade all things considered)

CH4 protag (Not an ideal usage of medicine (CH1 protag is kind of sus for not being more forthright), +CHA stats, but big downgrade on their INT stat...)

CH5 protag (Yeah he dun goofed. The guy's old personality takes control from time to time, but only briefly. Arguably might as well be dead since his life will just be short jumps in time until they naturally die.)

If you can accept losing a bit of yourself (If your not totally narcissistic, then no biggie), then ideally you should go for someone better looking, about as smart or smarter than you, and or younger.

Did the chapter 4 protagonist really become any dumber? Neither him nor the cheerleader girl he possessed really showed to be either smart or stupid.

Also, I suspect that the chapter 5 protagonist isn't actually losing his personality as a result of the possession, as much as he caved into the temptation of living Himeno's lifestyle as he secretly envied, but was unable to do so in his original body. While he did become noticably dumber as a result of the possession (struggling with math), he seems to be aware of his actions, and his consciousness still seems to be dominant. Plenty of people do things they regret on auto-pilot, and living as a bimbo was probably too tempting for Okabe to follow through with his original intent of succeeding academically in his new body. Okabe seemed to actually hate working hard in school, mainly doing so because his tiger mom was pressuring him.

By the way, were Okabe's complaints about affirmative action present in the Japanese version, or was that a localization change?
