It sucks how many manga authors perpetrate misinformation about vagina health, but "washing" inside your vagina can make vaginal health issues worse. "Washing" it disturbs the delicate organic balance and over-cleaning is the main reason that women get awful-smelling yeast infections (which are caused by the imbalance from overcleaning allowing normally weak fungus to take root and grow).

Proper vaginal hygiene:

Wash the vulva lightly, including inner and outer labia. A few seconds with body soap on a sponge or washcloth is fine. Don't push soap or cleaning tools deep inside your vagina (past the inner labia).

If you use insert-style tampons, don't leave them in for more than a few hours. Change them regularly.

Wash sex toys thoroughly after using them - don't ever use unwashed sex toys. Even if cleaned, don't leave them inside you after finishing. Unscented handsoap works best for washing sex toys (branded "sex toy cleaner" is just overpriced unscented handsoap, don't fall for it). Hot water only.

If you mostly masturbate with your hands/fingers, wash your hands thoroughly before and after. Don't allow boyfriends/girlfriends to touch your vagina without first washing also. Don't let them lick you unless you are certain about their oral hygiene practices. Don't allow a penis anywhere near your vagina unless you are certain the owner is washing properly. Be doubly careful with uncircumcised dicks. It's shocking how many men have no idea how to wash themselves properly.

If you get a UTI or fungal infection anyway, use medicated and anti-fungal cleaning methods prescribed by your doctor. Regular commercial soaps won't help. If they seem like they are, that's just because the UTI or yeast problem is resolving itself naturally and you are wrongly attributing the cause.

If you have smell issues regardless of what you do, consult a gynecologist (preferably a woman - it's shocking how much misinformation male gynecologists perpetrate about cleaning etc), don't use "vaginal wash" like vagisil as you'll just make it worse. Any "fixes" with retail store products will be temporary. There are some prescription vaginal washes that may help restore balance/healthy musky smell but you aren't going to find anything on retail store shelves that's going to help you, it's all marketing nonsense.

Once you've achieved balance, your vagina will smell normal (musky) without needing to wash excessively. If it seems like you consistently have a stinky, rot-smelling vagina no matter what you do in the shower or otherwise, you have health and/or hormone issues that should be addressed by a series of specialist doctors; using soaps/detergents/vagisil is not going to fix it.

A properly balanced vagina will also be more resistant to foreign bacteria or fungus introduced by fingers, tongues, toys, or penises. Over-washed vaginas are basically defenseless against these things. If you know a girl who gets UTI's all the time despite "washing herself properly" it's almost certainly because of overwashing and then having sex.

Quality Vaginal Hygiene PSA aside; if anybody is taking health & anatomical advice from John K. Pe-ta an out of balance vagina is probably the least of their issues.... I'm not sure they have long for this world.
