Honestly I have no clue and I would invite any clarity for this: The wiki states that the namespace should be the gender of the character engaging in intercourse with the insect, but this is in confusing contrast to how other animal tags like 'monkey' work, where the namespace should be the gender of the monkey, and not the gender of whoever the monkey is fucking.

If I search for "male:insect", I find lots of galleries with upvoted tags where the insect is male and doing the fucking, and if I search for "female:insect", I get the same result. AFAICT there isn't a consistent usage across the site.

A complicating issue is that's an ovipositor laying eggs. Females lay eggs. It's still rather phallic and not what people who are looking for bug pussy are looking for. You can search for f:insect and -egg, which helps, but only if f:insect is being used consistently to refer to female insects instead of females getting fucked by male insects.

Yea that's correct. If a female human character is having sex with an insect, gallery gets f:insect tag.
If a male human character is having sex with an insect, it gets the m:insect tag. The gender of the insect is irrelevant, only the human character matters.

As for the reason why there's so many incorrect Male:insect galleries? Well it's because this site is kind of inconsistent with some tags and where they should go. For example tags like horse, dog and other big animals are based on the gender of the animal but other tags like insect, reptile, frog, octopus are based on the gender of the human character. It can get pretty confusing and some people don't check the tag wiki before tagging.

It also doesn't help that that some of the older users act like total fucking assholes when someone makes a small mistake and that just makes some people tag incorrectly out of spite. I've seen some people say they tag incorrectly on purpose just to piss off that Pseudo-Nim guy.
