viltras: I asked Tenboro about that very thing, actually, since Wanimagazine content IS listed on the DNP list. His exact words were: "Actual Fakku releases are DNP. Everything else is YMMV as far as takedowns go but is not community expungeable." That said, I think scanlators would do well to avoid translating Wani content, especially if it was released recently. Let Fakku work that side of the street; plenty of other stuff to translate.

Waitugreat: I'll never understand why people complain about it. I have no idea what a subscription to Kairakuten costs but I'd be surprised if if wasn't comparable to what Fakku charges per month.

@DJ_Puchuu it's largely a hatred the community has for exactly how fakku got where it is today by originally being a website that scraped it's content largely from here prior to the wani purge.

The Wani Purge itself was due to the actions of Jacob Grady, the owner of Fakku, getting an exclusivity contract on some of wani's publications to translate officially and uncensored.

Have you ever played Mafia 3? Basically swap out the main antagonist with Fakku and the Casino with becoming an actual publisher. That's kinda the long and short of it.

Jack: I'm aware Fakku was a piracy site, much like this one, prior to the Wani deal (found it through 4chan many moons ago IIRC); didn't know they scraped their content from here, but whatever; ***** does the same thing now and no one bats an eye (even though ***** is a pretty shitty site overall once you get down to it; the 'nuke codes' are a meme and the only real reason it's still alive IMHO). That doesn't bother me, nor does the purge, or the existence of the license in the first place. People who are (still) bent out of shape about it would do well to read US copyright law: IP holders are not under any obligation to tolerate piracy and I don't know why anyone would think otherwise (I doubt Wani and Fakku are as bad about DMCAs/C&Ds as, say, the house of Mouse, though, given some of the stories I've heard about Etsy sellers). If Wani and Fakku wanted shit removed, guess what? They're 100% allowed to ask that it be removed. I do not understand why this is such a hard concept for people to understand.

I'll also point out that Wani is hardly the only publisher of hentai out there (to say nothing of all the self-published doujinshi), and I'm pretty sure the purge would've still occurred if it had been another site (or if Wani had opened a North American division).

DJ_Puchuu: while the whole "legality" is a factor, the main reason people around here hate fakku is because solely because of how they did it.

As far as how shotgun heavy they are, jacob has tried atleast three times to actually self promote here by uploading some stuff officially.

Then they proceeded to dmca their own official uploads. So yeah. They're compaired to Irodori Comics for a reason. (Another similar case but involves a **way** worse dude who used actual strongarm tactics and has nuked versions of stuff they don't actually own the rights to.)

Jack: feathers were gonna get ruffled regardless. I'm surprised they DMCA'ed their own uploads, though; wasn't aware that had happened (which shows just how much I care about the whole thing). I have a subscription to Fakku so the lack of Wani translations on here doesn't bother me (like I said, plenty of other content to read).

I'm aware of Irodori's past, and if On Takahashi (I believe that's his name) wants to be a hypocrite about piracy, that's fine; wouldn't be the first time someone did a 'do as I say, not as I do'. Wasn't aware they had nuked stuff they didn't have rights to. You got any examples for that? I've bought some of their content and the translations seem to be okay.

If I remember correctly, it's that they nuke the Japanese version of stuff they only have the English rights to.

I can't think of many examples but some of Arekusa Thunder stuff is on that mark.

Jack: I've noticed that; presumably it's to discourage/prevent scanlators from translating a given work. A bit scummy, but as far as I know, not illegal, especially if they have exclusive distribution rights to a given artist's catalog (which would not surprise me).

Actually it would be illegal, due to being fraud, but it's like that whole problem the SCP foundation had with that one russian asshole who filed a fraudulent copyright on it.

Since this entire website is built on piracy it isn't legally able to tell On to stuff it when it comes to his fraudulent takedowns.

From what I remember, he routinely takes down translation of works he "owns" but never actually releases.

Some dragon hoarding gold level shit.

Jack: if they own the English distribution rights...like I said, plenty of other stuff to read/translate. But people would rather bitch and moan.

"From what I remember, he routinely takes down translation of works he "owns" but never actually releases."
Sounds more like Irodori buys exclusive rights to a given artist's catalog of works and then files the DMCAs. Like I said, a little scummy, but I think the word 'exclusive' gives them leeway in the eyes of the law.
