Alot of the time guys do end up humiliating themselves in these situations. I know I've done it before. Not to this degree. Its usually something like her either directly or indirectly(this happens the most) letting you know that she has no romantic interest in you. But the guy still pathetically tries to win her over, keeps a close relationship, orbits around her, pretends that he is ok with just having a platonic friendship, becomes passive aggressive or even hostile with the girl when she gets a boyfriend, etc.
